i was quite shocked yesterday - i guess i will have to wait untill the letter arrives - cause the lady said that they dont have to offer everyone there basic account (which i thought hey had to -thats why they were introduced)
A bank can choose its customers. It can reject anyone for any reason - as can any other business.

Can I open a basic bank account
    whatever my credit history?
    Answer
Almost everybody should be able to
open a basic bank account. The bank
or building society may want to check
your credit history to see if you have
    any county court judgments (CCJs)
against you or have been made
bankrupt. But even if you have, you
may still be able to open an account
    – check the table on page 4.
The table can be found on page 4 of this leaflet

A lot of you are sound confused between a basic bank account - i expect their terminology for no account charge, and a cash card account which they have to give you. Which has no visa card, just a cash card which has to be used a lloyds.

Hi - well i am not confused - I definately asked for a basic account . I do think we all know the difference. I only applied on the phone because of the previous posting - which said they applied on the phone- originally i thought the basic one could only opened on the branch.

The only thing i thought was definate was being able to get a basic a/c. i have had a ccj and defaults but not bankcrupt - or fraud -as far as i am aware .

I opened an rbs ac the other day - but cancelled because of there slack service- maybe i should have kept it open !!!

    Hi,

I have a Basick "Cash Account" with Lloyds. It also comes with the Visa Debit Card.
I have one CCJ (Cleared) and around 3 defaults from about 2/3 years ago that are nearly paid.

I have had the account around a year.

You should try applying for th A&L Premier Direct Current Account. This is a full account, but they seem to accept quite a few people with bad credit. I have managed to get one of these accounts in the past few months, comes with a full Visa Debit card, and cheque book.

    Hope that helps.

No, this account with Lloyds comes with a full Visa Debit card even though it's classed as a basic account. I think it is credit scored as they are giving you a Visa Debit rather than an Electron card!
  • Hi Guys,

Sorry if my first comment wasn't detailed enough.

Firstly, I'd like to say the information barclay guy has posted is incorrect.
I phoned up TSB to try and open a current account, they informed me that the only account they could offer me was the basic CASH account - which is what Barclay guy has posted the link for. As I said in my first comment, the bank have not updated this informaiton.

After being accepted over the phone for the basic cash account and being told I would get a visa debit card with it, I went into the branch and the manager who was dealing with it initally told me that it would not be a debit card and simply a cash card as stated on the website, but then she realised the computer said something else! DEBIT. She told me intitally that the debit card would soon be standard for this type of account but hadn't been implemented yet, but it now has!

IF you apply for the basic cash account you get a VISA DEBIT card, I can confirm this because I received mine today :D You can take £300 out, use it in as many shops as you like for as much as you like (as long as you have enough money in your account to cover it), for DD, SO etc.

As for my credit history? Two outstanding defaults, one default statisfied and a whole load of late payments!

Hope this helps - sorry if some of it doesn't make sense but i'm just in from work!!

    JM :)
  • Hey - try giving them a call and asking if you can open the CASH account! CAll centre staff sometimes just want you off the call, because you said basic they might have tried a current account istead of the cash account! :)

:jThanks for your information, with me I still have bankruptcy on my file even though I'm discharged so that will be why they turned me down for this account. I believe you can only get dosh out from a LTSB atm.

    :money: Hi all,

I've been searching over the last few months to find a bank account that offered an actual VISA DEBIT card and haven't had much luck until now!

Lloyd's TSB now offer a VISA DEBIT card with there basic cash account. It will give you everything a current account does apart from an overdraft and cheque book. Although the website doesn't state this information yet it is true. I applied over the phone and had no problems !!

Hope this helps anyone finding it hard to find this type of account!

    James

I was just goint to come on and post about this very account.

My 14yr old DD1 has a basic lloyds bank account with cash card. Today a "mystery" envelope arrived for her- we opened it (yes I know it's bad opening otyher folks post but she is only 14) and it was a FLIPPIN DEBIT CARD:mad:

Maybe, juyst maybe I'm being over protective but I really don't think it is a good idea- she can just spend and spend without really realising it,at least if she has to take cash out to spennd, she is aware of what she is doing and how her balance is dropping.
