:money: Hi all,
I've been searching over the last few months to find a bank account that offered an actual VISA DEBIT card and haven't had much luck until now!
Lloyd's TSB now offer a VISA DEBIT card with there basic cash account. It will give you everything a current account does apart from an overdraft and cheque book. Although the website doesn't state this information yet it is true. I applied over the phone and had no problems !!
Hope this helps anyone finding it hard to find this type of account!

Hiya James
What type of credit history do you have? Any defaults? I applied for this basic account, mainly for the Visa Debit card, but I got declined. My history isn't good, I'm discharged from bankruptcy and under 2 years for my credit files to be clean. I have spoken to a person from the FSA and she said even though it was a government idea (basic accounts) it's still down to the banks at the end of the day.
Didn't know you could apply for Lloyds TSb Basic account over the phone? I was told you had to go in!0 -
HI - I just called lloyds to open a basic account -- was put on hold after answering 2 questions- then the lady came back and said that unfortunately i could not be offered an account with them

What questions did they ask you? As Danpaul says on the basic account thread because this ''basic'' account with Lloyds has a Visa Debit card and may not check immediately what's is going through your account, they may be more selective. Are you sure they tried to get you a basic account rather than a full current account?
I remember a few years ago, I applied in branch to open a Co-op cashminder I told him my circumstances (bankrupt) and he still tried to open me a FULL current with them
Of course it was turned down, it was then referred and a basic cashminder account opened. 0 -

I went bankrupt in 2004, so in just under 2 years that will drop off my files as it is very adverse to have it on
A Bankruptcy, default stays on for 6 years.

hI well they asked me
1) My name -dob address
Then put on hold
2) Then she asked where do i work - if i have applied for credit from another addreess
Then put me on hold
Came back and said NO
I asked her how can it be declined if i only applied for a basic a/c- of which the goverment says everyones entitled to - She said they dont have to give me one !!0 -
 Thanks Diva
I was told by a lady from the FSA that the basic account thing is well bit hit and miss! That was a very quick No:eek:
As anyone on the board been successful getting a Lloyds Basic account with say a default or so?

This is strange, got my hubby to ring Lloyds and they told him he will have to go into a branch to open an account, this is the basic account.
Also just checked their website and it says go to a branch with ID.
They must have checked you for a full current?

Hi, My brother applied for LTSB current account over the phone. It was declined immediately but a Basic Cash account was offered. He was asked to go to LTSB branch with some identification.
