I used Cotton Traders twice in 2 years and twice my account had fraudulent transactions on it after using Cotton Traders. Once to the tune of £1,000 and the next in June 2008 for £500. I found out who had fraudulently used my card and informed my bank who couldn't care less and neither could the Police come to that! how did I find out? well I had a receipt come through to my home address for a computer from a well known company. The receipt was for my address but not my name and the computer was delivered to another address in Kent (nowhere near where I live). I am still waiting for my money back from my bank today 17th June 2008. I had in total 4 fraudlent transactions in 2 days, after which when I found these on my bank statement I had the card stopped immediately. Cotton Traders did nothing to alert me to the fact that my card could have been used fraudulently. I am fed up of the fact that these companies take our money yet their security is rubbish!! for gods sake Cotton Traders wake up and smell the coffee and treat your customers right by beefing up your security system and advising us when this happened and then we could have done something about it then.

I last used Cotton Traders in February this year, and only occasionally before that, it is reported that they were hacked in January. I emailed them last week and they assured me that they had notified the banks and new cards issued. As I didn't receive a new card then it meant that I wasn't affected. Well this is the first time in 12 years of owning this card that the bank has been in touch to say it is being used fraudulently to buy a well known computer. Kenwood33 I wonder if I will receive a receipt ?

Might be an idea, if no one already has , for all you folks to contact Watchdog. If you all email cotton traders telling them what you are going to do so I suspect they be extremely concerned and inconvenienced - just like you have!!

i think maybe thats a good idea - I don't think Cotton Traders will be at all concerned, but I do think their customers SHOULD know the potential danger they are in
I for one will CERTAINLY e mail watchdog - what about everyone else?

I found out today that someone tried to change the address details on my Barclaycard Platinum, and put a test purchase through.
Having spoken to the excellent fraud team at barclaycard, they confirmed it was very likely to be due to a problem with a mail order firm - cotton traders.

No major problem for me, but I will be expressing my displeasure to cotton traders.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

well - since I posted here last-guess what - my SECOND credit card has had £1500 fraudulent spend on it - it was only issued to me in Jan and guess where I used it to shop online.............yep- you guessed it, cotton traders again - it's just TOO much of a conincidence if you ask me that 2 of my three credit cards have been subject to fraudulent spends and the ONLY place in commom where I used them and NOT my other cc was Cotton Traders
I've now purchased identity theft insurance to try and make sure there is nothing untoward going on with my personal identity- so thats £70 I have had to spend to try and protect myself as a result of the Cotton traders insecure website............... and they just don't care - not even a response to my letter of complaint of 12th June
well guess who I hope goes bust in the next year !!!!!!!

so sorry to hear this - so far 2 of my 3 cards have been scammed and BOTH of them - but NOT the third one have been used to purchase on Cotton Traders website.
was this your credit card or your debit card?
I only ask as I got a GREAT tip of a money saving expert on these forums - don't use your DEBIT card to shop online - if someone gets your details- it's YOUR money they have acces to-if you use a Credit card- it's the card company's money not yours that has been spent and the card companies tend to act quicker to put a stop on the account than the banks will with YOUR money!
I know it;s not much help now- but maybe a tip for the future for you
hope you get this sorted- the eventual spends on my 2 cards was well in excess of £2500..........

never mind getting your bank to call them - i would be onto the police by now - the data protection act does NOT cover this- that is a CIVIL matter and your card has been used fraudulently - so by covering themselves by the Data protection act- they are in fact aiding and abetting a fraudulent act
I would suggest you call them back ask to speak to a manager and tell them you are now reporting them to the police for obstruction and being accessories after the fact - they might JUST give you the details
the data protection act it there to protects the rights of the DATA SUBJECT and in this case that it YOU - it;s your card that has been used - how dare they refuse to speak to you about it - and if they are not convinced that you are the data subject why have they cancelled the order at your request?
