We used to punch holes in the bottom to drink the milk, then crack them open and just munch away at nice fresh coconut.

I guess you could save the milk and whizz it with some of the coconut grated and bung it into a curry - or a cake - or rice pudding... :)

I want to make one of Curry Queen's recipes and it calls for coconut cream. I know the difference between the water, milk and cream, but I have rootled around in my cupboards and found one of those blocks of compressed creamed coconut. My question is - what do I do with this block? There are no instructions on the side. Do I mix with water? Add it as is to the curry? Is it entirely the wrong thing? I've tried googling but not got the wanswer I need.

If all else fails, I have some single cream in the fridge. I s'pose I could use this in my Korma, but then I would need to add coconut anyway, wouldn't I?

    TIA

Pop it in a pan with a bit of boiling water and gently heat until it melts. add more water if necessary - voila, coconut cream!

Cheers for that. I was hoping it was going to be as simple as that - just wanted to check before I went into town in case I had to buy something else :D

I'm sure we've just had a thread on this! When I find it I'll merge the two :)

    Edit: Done :)

:) I think the search engine hates you :)

I always use the advanced search these days - hardly ever tick any of the magic boxes, just type in what I want and then click on the search button. Most times I get something useful.

With those blocks of coconut cream, I just chop off a bit and melt it in the sauce, the heat dissolves it.

Must remember to keep it airtight once opened though because otherwise it dries up and goes rock hard!
