            That's building regs though...
Most conservatories don't need planning permission because they are deemed to be temporary structures..If you are putting a pitched tile roof onto a conservatory you are I would imagine making it a permanant structure so you would still need to get planning permission to to soscotsblood wrote: »Sorry, not actually correct for England;-
There were changes made to the building regulations on October 1st 2010 which allows anyone to put a solid roof on a conservatory as long as they meet the following criteria:
They are built at ground level and are less than 30 square metres in floor area.
The conservatory is separated from the house by external quality walls, doors or windows.
There should be an independent heating system with separate temperature and on/off controls.
Glazing and any fixed electrical installations comply with the applicable building regulations requirements."

Polycarbonate to the Thermotec insulated system. They went through the normal procedures of a visit by a rep who gave me a quote, I accepted gave hime a cheque as deposit, three weeks later two surveyers came and took very careful measurements and told me insallation would be 4 to six weeks, three weeks later I had a phone call telling me the exact dates for install would be April 7th and 8th
Come the day I waited and waited and no one showed up,so I rang the number shown on the invoice and no response all day long and the next day still no response. Conclusion is I have been scammed

Hi - I've been doing lots of trawling around as we're deciding whether to improve our existing conservatory (possibly with a solid roof/insulated underfloor heating etc.) or to replace with a full extension. I came across this article which gives a view on whether the solid roof option is worth pursuing.
Unfortunately I can't post the link, but if you google Telegraph and Conservatory Roof I'm sure you'll find it. It was published on 8th July 2014 by Jeff Howell.
Having had quotes from a couple of companies to do a solid roof, we're tending towards a new extension instead. The cost might be higher, but will provide a more solid solution in the long term. The costs of the solid roof is pretty high, we're looking at around 8K for a 6X4m conservatory. Add in the flooring improvements, and we're spending over 10K. If the conservatory panels start to fail, then we'll have spent a lot of money on something that starts to fall to bits.
However if we go for a new extension, we're likely to spend 25K, but the added value will significantly outstrip that of a conservatory, and there won't be any of the longevity issues of a conservatory.0 -

We have also been scammed by a company called NATIONAL CONSERVATORIES. Answered an ad in The a Sun newspaper and rep paid us two vists. Seemed very professional and we paid a deposit after being told survey would be carried out with ten days. Nothing! No contact made. We can't get hold of anyone to do with the company even though the website is still live and trading. The director for this company is a man called JAMES TAYLOR based in Oldham. From posting on another forum I am of the understanding that this guy us carrying out this scam on a very large scale. We have informed FENSA who the company have claimed they are covered by but are not, trading standards, CAB, police action fraud and BBC watchdog. Hopefully this man will be stopped. AVOID !!!!!!!!!!!!0
