Well I'll be darned - first neg but why !!??

Sold a t-shirt on eBay, brand new condition and never worn, however I did buy it in Florida a couple of years ago, and I have moved house 3 times since then. So it looks a bit packed / repacked if you know what I mean.

Buyer got in touch to say she wasn't happy as it didn't look brand new, but didn't want to fuss, wasn't looking for a refund etc etc.. we had a few bits of polite e-mails etc and I said 'no probs, if you aren't happy then I'm not and to be honest I was just selling some bits and pieces. Since the selling price was only £3.70 I will refund if you tell me your paypal details'. She says she doesn't have Paypal, so I send her a cheque which was cashed 3 days ago.

I check my eBay account and she's negged me for non delivery !!

'Item did not arrive. Refund by e-bay. Disappointing.'

She has the item, has cashed the refund cheque, and STILL negs me - my first neg out of 168 !!

Here's me thinking these kind of things only happen to other people ....

It could be that they have left the feedback for the wrong person. However even if this is the case you are now stuck with it under the new rules.

It does sound like they have left feedback for the wrong person, which is very unfortunate.

Although, how would she be getting a refund by eBay if she didn't have PayPal?
  • Did you look at their feedback that they have left for other people.

I got my 1st neg on the day of the changes and when I checked what they had left recently I found they had left a total of 9 negs - one each for 9 sellers in the space of 15 minutes!!

They have since been booted and the 9 negs have all vanished.

I would email again and politely ask if they negged you by mistake - then if you are sure they are messing you about - report them for leaving an inappropriate neg - that's what I did

dunno, it's weird how the item sold 6 weeks ago but the cheque was only cashed on the 6th June and the feedback left on the 7th.

Oh well I have spent all day in hospital with my lad so some things are much more important.

If the feedback was left in error by the buyer, the buyer can request ebay to remove it, providing the buyer has already left it for the correct person
eBay may remove Feedback ratings and/or comments that meet the guidelines outlined below.
Feedback (ratings and comments) may be removed in the following instances:
    ...
    • A member mistakenly leaves negative or neutral Feedback intended for another member, informs eBay of the error and has already placed the same Feedback for the correct member.
    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/feedback-withdrawal-removal.html

Otherwise, the best you can do is to try a mutual withdrawal of feedback; but note in this case the comment still remains, but the rating is removed.
If you and your trading partner agree, you can both withdraw your feedback ratings via the Mutual feedback withdrawal form. Once both trading partners fill in the form, the ratings will no longer count towards either member’s feedback score. The comments will still be shown with a note to show that the matter has now been resolved.

Edit: Mutual feedback withdrawal is no longer available. Thanks to kevinyork for this clarification. See below for further details
