Has anyone heard if St Andrews Glass Dundee (Windows & Conservatories) company are in trouble.
I have paid a 2K deposit for a conservatory and front door (by credit card).
Tried to contact them today (various tel nos) and either get a busy line or no answer at all.
Managed to contact one of their surveyors who has also been trying to contact them since Friday.
It does not look good, he thinks that Receivers may have been called in but basically is as much in the dark as I am.
I am obviously worried as I have paid a deposit but until I can find out for definite don't know how to proceed.
Will credit card company cover deposit if needs be?
Would appreciate any advice?
PS Hope this is the right forum for this!

Macintosh_shelly ---No, I have tried a number of times and have also tried e-mailed them.
As I said in my original post I spoke to their Surveyor yesterday who I believe was employed directly by them and he has also not been able to contact them.
To be fair to him he was very apologetic and said that he had no inkling of any problem but could not contact them since trying Friday 6th June.
Its difficult to know what is happening or indeed what happens next (assuming that they have gone into receivership). I am hoping someone in the know will read this post and let us know for definite.
I suppose it is possible that if things are as bad as I fear that someone may be able to rescue company in some form. Surveyor said that they were very busy (full order books) so someone may want to keep business going.
Assuming order books are full there are likely to be quite a few people in the same position as us.
For your info the Tel Nos I have are:
W Luke: 01382 836095
08005873056
01382 825 115
and 08000223040
P.S. They are still listed as an active company on Companies house website.0 -
I was at their dundee office today regarding a wages cheque for my son that bounced. They have upsticks and left. The dundee courier have been running a story for the last 3 weeks regarding the kids that worked for them not being paid. Spoke to the courier again today they are investigating them. If you want to pm me i will give you the reporters name and direct number but it doesn't look very good.Has anyone heard if St Andrews Glass Dundee (Windows & Conservatories) company are in trouble.

I wouldn't worry. You paid by credit card. Under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Your credit card supplier is equally liable for this money. You can claim from them.
Contact your credit card company, explain the situation, and tell them you want to claim your money back from them using the above law.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanks for advice re credit card Rex_Mundi.
Reassurance is much appreciated.
I paid by CC thinking that that might be the case, particularly as the deposit seemed hefty at time and I had some reservations re guarantees.
However salesmen can be very convincing and (against my better judgment) because Conservatory is part of a number of home alterations I need to fund on a tight budget to benefit my wife who is disabled, I did place the order.
I hope I've now learned my lesson!!
I guess that until its made official that they have gone bust CC company will not pay up, so I suppose I will need to wait for an announcement from Receivers (assuming they are called in at some time).
It does appear that I might be relatively fortunate on this occasion but I know how much of a major investment these type of home improvements are to people and hope that there are not too many people out there who lose out.
Thanks again0 -

Today i learned that St Andrews Glass has shut up shop, well i say great news for people who dont want cold calls ,as this is a firm that spammed my mother for months with cold calls,i say tough luck on the workers who are owed money, but was it a real job anyway?,cold calling up elderly people and press ganging them into windows, doors, etc
Good bye, St Andrews Glass, will we see the same people set up again in the months ahead with a new name
I remember Space Kitchens, they go under another name now,and their last manager who also `left a week ago`,only to surface again a few months later after the Watchdog program about them,he is easy to spot he wears a Superman Tee Shirt, its a pity its not a super firm he works, for but just another bunch of phone spammers

I have expected this for some time as l do other local companies who basically trade insolvent. If people checked out the credit of the company before parting with deposits, they would be better protected. Anyone who needs help with existing products or outstanding orders may contact me.0

It may even be Lyndon Windows and Conservatories thats next for the chop (according to their bank anyway),why else would they hand out Certificates stating what would happen if they went bust, with their quotes?
no other glazing company is doing it including Mr Sidey above,so do they know something we dont know about?
Remember they (Lyndon) have done it before ,do you remember `Fersina` same people, different name.

Not neccessarily, could just be a clever marketing ploy. My advice would be to not pay anything for your windows and doors until the job is completed. Any trustworthy company wont expect a deposit of any size. Why pay for something you dont have - and wont get? :rolleyes:0
