I can't see them getting that huffy over £86, when you just paid £500! Did you get a receipt from the bank for the deposit? Then you could prove to them that the cheque is about to clear. If (and that's if) a guy does turn up tomorrow, just deal with him politely, tell him you already spoke to the office, the balance will be paid Friday and then put it in writing to the company that despite offering them payment on the Friday, they still sent an agent. This will cover you if things get nasty. You can show that you kept them updated, and they were unreasonable.
I've had 'agent's (sorry, I meant pig headed bullies) on the doorstep - the most important thing to remember is that you MUST KEEP YOUR CALM, AND YOUR HEAD. They cannot put you in jail, or at this point enter the property to take stuff. This only happens if it gets to cout, and they have all the paperwork in a row (Rossendales tried this with me - no court docys, no takey I told them, and made the man very angry lol). Keep your cool, it's scare tactics designed to work on old ladies and vunerable people. Stick to your guns - if you don't have it, you can't pay it.
Your SOA looks a little sparse - do you honestly have £500 at the end of the month? Probably not - start keeping a diary of exactly what you spend every day - a choc bar and a paper every day do add up! You'll be shocked at where it gets spent.
Have you told the GF about the situation yet? She's a female i.e. not daft, and she'll probably already have twigged somethings up.This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Don't panic and re-read Oberon's response! It really is a help because it:
1 gives advice about what to do if the 'agent' calls
2 asks if you could give a bit more detail on your SoA
3 suggests you do a spending diary (ie make a note of everything you spend) so that you can see where the £500 you're supposed to have left is going.
4 asks if you've told your gf about the situation yet
If the advice given about the agent isn't what you want to know, could you put on a post with more detailed questions so that someone more knowledgeable than I am can come along and give more specific advice?A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

Hi Digging...
Your SoA is lacking detail? If you have £500 surplus a month, how have you managed to get into debt... accepting that you love spending money on your lovely lady...
One thought though (being a girl myself!!) If my partner spoiled me rotten and ran up some debt in the process, if he didn't tell me, but stopped spending so much on me because he decided to deal with the problem himself and clear the debt - I might be concerned that it was me that was the problem! My insecurities pop up and my mind starts thinking he's gone off me, or found someone new!! - I assume this isn't what you want?
The other option is that he's in a financial mess and decides that he's going to deal with it on his own... he carries on spending ridiculous amounts on me, I would see no change, but he would carry on being in a mess! - I assume this isn't what you'd want either?
As you can see from my signature, I am in a bit of a mess myself... I met an Australian, have spent a fortune flying to see him... he's now asked me to move out to be with him and try living together, as hard as it is I've confessed that I was in a mess... He was fantastic (in the army actually!) he has flown me over to visit him, we've talked through ways I can deal with it (he's offered to help, but my pride has declined!)...
Nobody knows what your relationship is like, nobody can TELL you to confess all... this is a bit of food for thought, if you don't tell her - it's likely she'll either work out something's wrong (probably jumping to the wrong conclusions even) or you'll continue to be in a mess, you could ditch her - if you love her I'm amazed you can even consider this!!! or you could confess and allow her the honour of actually being part of your life, all your life!
I know though that's it's not always easy - you have my best wishes and 'virtual' support!!
