daughter took out contract phone for boyfriend
Hi, my daughter has just moved home after finishing with her boyfriend.
She has told me that she just, in the last few weeks, took out a mobile phone contract in her name for her boyfriend who is black listed.
Is there anything she can do to cancel this? obviously she doesn`t trust the boyfriend to give her the £48 a month plus for the bill (as she finished with him)and the direct debit is coming out of her bank every month. She got it from the link.
Thanks

Probaby not ... been in a similar situation
Get her to call them and cancel the SIM, report it lost if she has insurance. At least then he can't run up a big bill that she will be liable for. Might be able to downgrade tariff to something low and pay off the contract but she's pretty stuck to be honest.

Personally I would report the phone lost. At least that way she gains control back and he can't use it to make 5 hour calls to the speaking clock in China.
If the contract was within I think 14 days it can be cancelled, but you have to give the handset back.

Ask for the phone back, if he says no report it as stolen, which it clearly is if he wont give it back..0

she can phone up and try to give his bank details for the direct debit - worth a try.
She can also drop the tarriff to the lowest one and pay for the remainder of the year contract and then cancel it. The best thing to do is rink or go into the Link and talk to them explaining the situation.
I hope this helps😁0 -
you can also put a call limit on the phone to stop him running up high bills.😁0

Under the Data Protection Act he could have her prosecuted.
What I would do id phone the company with who
you took out the contract with and see what options they give you
and then work out something from there.......0 -

I know this is going to make me sound like a mug and a fool, but just because there are people on this forum who are happy to recommend crime, it doesn't mean you have to go and commit it. Reporting a phone as lost or stolen when you know that's not true is a criminal offence (insurance fraud). Apart from being wrong (I know, I know, no one cares about that round here) it might be pretty stupid in this case, if the ex-boyfriend rings up the phone company to tell them the truth.
I'd follow the advice from Mr Skint to call the phone company, explain everything and take it from there.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!0
