I want a good waterproof camera that i can use on holiday in the pool/sea etc and not have to worry about it. Anyone know of any or have any themselves?

I am ordering the samsung from play and want a sd card referred to at the start of the post but there are 100s of them.... Can anybody tell me which one is needed for this camera and how much should I buy. The kids like to do video clips and upload them to pc so for the price of this camera I will let them use it too (;>

The S85 gets good reviews - here's one:

Comet do this camera rebranded as the D85 for just a few quid more (£69.99) if Play sell out:

Play are out of stock and will send out as soon as they are back in stock, so your info is very useful for people wanting one quickly.

Also, I much prefer a silver one to a black one :)
Mine is reserved for pick up from Comet later today.

So, your message here is great, thanks for that.

  • Regarding batteries for cameras, especially ones with a zoom lens like this you shouldn't really use standard AAs, and normal rechargeables can be even worse. They don't put out enough power for the lens, flash etc.

You should really use ones rated around 2500, like the ones you get with higher end Sony cameras.

Most of the time you'll get away with it, but sometimes the lens can just stop working (speaking from experience here - had to send it back to Samsung who luckily repaired it for me free of charge).

I now use a DSLR but I still have my old Samsung lying around and I now only use high rated rechargeables in it.

Samsung S85 now out of stock at Play.com!
  • In my experience AA rechargeable cells are far more difficult for folk to understand, simply because there is so much choice.
    Ni-Cad's
    Li-ion's
    NiMH's
to name a few. You must understand what you are using, and why. There are advantages and disadvantages in each type. Learn a little about them and it'll help you understand things like how long a charge should last, at what rate to recharge and how long for (where you have a choice).
For example, one of the biggest mistakes with Ni-Cad's is to overcharge or not fully cycle them.

A little knowledge will go a long way in making the most of a battery’s life.

and that's without even getting into capacity’s and voltages
 Share prices can go down and down and down, as well as down
  • I have just received this camera http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/256/336/-/5341910/Samsung-L830-8-1-Megapixel-Digital-Camera/Product.html?searchtype=genre

and I am well chuffed with it!

It takes nice pictures and has lots of good features like the ability to put frames and speech bubbles in and to change the colours to black and white etc.

It comes with a rechargable battery pack, so no worries about buying batteries either....
