Recd DVD from CD WOW and it is NOT multi region - its R1 and does not play on a R2 payer - methinks they are gonna get a lot of these back.0

Damn, that's a bit rude!

Most DVD players can be made multi region....
people are selling these on ebay by the shed load and I suspect they are coming from CDWOW and prob placing and order when sombody clicks "Buy it now", they will have a lot of very unhappy customers hehehe.
Not got my one yet but should be OK as I'm multi region. Don't see why anyone should pay return postage to Hong Kong though, it was their error after all..0 -
Try this site to make your DVD player region-free:
http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/hackable.asp
Or just search using Google for your model of DVD player and the words 'region hack' and you will probably find a website with instructions on it for most players.0 -
I emailed CD-WOW about the DVDs yeaterday and they were extremely helpful. They offered a Region 2 DVD if I so wanted and told me that all of the Live Aid DVDs were NTSC (which I believe my TV and DVD recorder can cope with).
Cost me just over £15: which means I can make a donation of £20 or so direct to Band Aid and so help them more than if I had bought the DVDs at full price.digital0 -
Well I contacted cd-wow about this issue and they were very quick with their reply. The dvd is multi region so will work on any dvd player. However, it won't work on our UK Pal tv's as it is NTSC. So they have kindly cancelled my order and sent a refund....
NTSC DVDs play perfectly on my bog-standard UK TV set up of a cheap Bush DVD player from Argos and a standard 28" Philips widescreen TV. You have probably cancelled unnecessarily.0 -
***Update and good news***
Called after getting confimation and they said they knew about the problem but although the DVD's were marked region one they were multi region. ;D
Got my DVD's today £15.19 ;D, found it was region 1
its OK in my region multi region player but my other one is not multi region >:(
Called CD WOW, they were very helpful indeed ;D Said they would send me a region 2 copy from the UK not Hong Kong so it would be with me very fast and a pre paid envelope to return the old one.
I think as its region 2 and from the UK it will also be Pal (ihope anyway).
Out of interest when I played it on my multi region the picture quality wasnot that good, got lines comming up every now and then (its good tv Sony 32" widescreen), I think this is due to the NTSC, I'm told NTSC is not as good quality as Pal?
But all in all good news ;D.0 -
I can't offer my tuppence-worth yet (as ours hasnt arrived) BUT there should be no problem running a Region1 dvd if you know a bit about dvd systems.
Most models can be made region free (and region selectable) and most tv's can display NTSC pictures. I make dvd's on my recorder and most of the time these are burnt in NTSC mode and US screen resolutions.
All out tv's play discs fine
NTSC gives you an increased frame-rate (29fps) while a PAL picture shows 25fps. Plus, the picture size of NTSC is larger than a PAL picture. There shouldnt be any quality issues
This is the only difference
