How long do your boy's school shoes last !

Walking with DS2 to school this morning, I have discovered that he has a hole in the sole of his school shoe.
This is now the second pair that he has trashed since Sept, he is obviously very heavy on shoes (rides bicycle / scooter daily)
In the first two years of proper school he has gone through 5 pair's of shoes (2 in reception, will be 3 in y1).
I usually buy him £10 school shoes because ££ are tight, but am starting to wonder if I would have been better of buying him more expensive shoes, that should last ???
I believe that boys tend to be heavier on shoes than girls, so was wondering how long your boys shoes last, and whether they are expensive brands (like clarks) and whether they are 'trashed' or simply outgrown size-wise ????

I used to reckon on buying at least 2 pairs a year, but I remember we had 4 pairs in 1 school year (Sept - July). It depends on what they get up to & whether they are footie players or not! I used to buy Clarks, but would get them in the sale, as my lads weren't bothered if they had the same style as last time.
Cheaper shoes weren't an option until their feet stopped growing.0 -
Sounds about right to me. We buy Clarkes but I don't think they last a lot longer and even if they do they grow out of them anyway. We assume they'll get through pair a term one way or another and it's a bonus if they last. Now my daughter is in year 3 and her feet aren't growing so fast they do seem to last a bit longer. It's my problem, it's my problem

I have always bought Clarks school shoes for my boys and expect them to last the school year. The youngests ones are looking a bit tatty now as he plays football in them non stop, but come up ok with a bit of polish.
If I have to buy 2 pairs per year, that's only roughly 30p per wear. Well worth it in my view.0 -
We buy Clarks and have always found them to be great. My little guy doesnt grow very fast so has only had 2 pairs of shoes for his first school year and they both wore/are wearing well. My nephew has cheaper ones and gets through a lot of pairs so its not always economical to go for the chepaer ones.
I also buy Doodles from Clarks for playing in as they last, are comfy and can be machine washed so it doesnt matter what he gets upto lol.
Occasionally I have bought canvas type shoes or sandals for the beach elsewhere but would rather pay for a decent shoe and fitting whilst they are still young and growing.0 -
My DS1 is 5 and is in 4+. He is on his fifth pair of school shoes this year - two clarks, one hush puppies and two start rite. He grew out of the second pair of clarks a few weeks after he got them but he has wrecked the front of all of the others. The clarks did best, the others have worn out very quickly and had holes coming at the toes when I replaced them - and I do polish them with scuff stuff every night. Haven't a clue what he does to them but will stick to clarks in future.
DS2 has some rubber ended clarks that are doing really well but they don't seem to do them in black for school.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Very nearly only a week in my case. DS (13) left £45 worth of brand new school shoes loafing right next to our puppys bed  She had chewed a bit of the heel on one before I rescued them, still wearable though.
He has easily gone through several pairs of school shoes and trainers every year. Mainly due to having a pair of feet that appear to sprout over night and constantly playing football.0 -
There must be something wrong with my son in year 1 then as both years, I've bought him shoes in September and they've lasted until July. I get Clarkes ones."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I find the £10 shoes get holes underneath much quicker than more expensive shoes, they last my son a term at the most. This school year I paid just over £20 & they've lasted much longer, they just suffer from scuf marks over the toes rather than holes. You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0

I bought clarks since my son started secondary, he's 2nd year in and a pair a year.
clarks only because school require black only (no logo no design just black)Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
I buy my son Clarks, and they last the school year. Only time I have had to buy new ones was when he was a bit younger and his feet were growing quicker.
Mind you - he doesn't like playing football, so that's probably why they don't fall to bits.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
