Links in signatures

Update 1 Feb 2008: Links can no longer automatically be put in signatures. The posters below have asked for and been given permission in the past and we've made sure their links stay. If any find that there's a problem and the link isn't staying please email [EMAIL="abuse@moneysavingexpert.com"]abuse@moneysavingexpert.com[/EMAIL] and we'll look into it. These posters may link to this thread to show they are on the list if need be :)

Have you turned it off?

  • Hi BritBrat

Do you know if that person's only just put that in their signature or if it's just that you've just noticed it? Signatures that had links in them before the change will still have them in if they've not been reported to abuse@ to let us know.

    Thanks for that

    Andrea :)

I'm sure I have seen several new users place links in their signatures after the policy highlighted by BritBrat was implemented.

I did wonder at the time, but didn't think to comment.

Maybe the techie side of the admin team should take another look at the permission policy for that?

Any link in a signature should be reported unless it is listed in the thread here...

I have reported the above signature and I've no doubt the abuse team will remove it now it has been spotted.

That is not disputed, but the admin policy mentioned above suggests that the permissions for new/existing users should have been set to "no" for link BBCode in signatures.

I have certainly noticed some people putting links in sigs since then, so there may be something wrong on the forum permission settings.

It may suggest it fermi but I don't read it that the software is set for individuals more that if a user is on the list then it shouldn't be removed by abuse if it is reported as has occasionally happened.

I obviously read it differently to you then.

The fact that Andrea was concerned earlier in this thread that someone had been able to put a link in their signature after the change suggests a global permissions change to me.

Obviously I can't comment on what the MSE team might have done, but the sensible policy would have been to globally deny links in signatures for all normal users, but then individually allow exceptions according to the the list.
