    ......*gets soapbox out*.........

One of my most favourite subjects (said with slight sarcasm, lol). I'm a carer too and this is one of those classic situations that until you have walked a mile in a carer's shoes, you haven't really got a scooby about this topic. It's like when you are pregnant, you know you will love your child but it's only when it's in your arms you experience a strange new feeling that you had no hope of understanding before. Same with carers.....most people would cope with the practical needs of the person receiving the care, but until you've done it day in day out 24/7 for years, you can't possibly understand the accumulative draining effect it has on a person's emotions/feelings/mental health.

I feel for you Mrs P, some days I feel so full of 'aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!' sorry, dont know how else to put it, lol.......that I just feel so completely overwhelmed and all I want to do is to sit in a corner staring into space.

I haven't been 'me' for years now. I dont ever feel 'happy', fulfilled, full of the joys of life or even just relaxed. My Doctor once told me God only gives us what we are strong enough to cope with, so obviously he thinks I'm tough (yay! ) but that's absolutely no bloody compensation for the fact my brain never gets 5 minutes peace, away from the problems and the stress.

It's not an option in my situation for friends or family to provide respite but that matters little to SS. As someone pointed out earlier, SS isn't a bottomless pit. What irks me though is they manage to find funding to take some little thug off on a holiday jaunt to keep him out of trouble whilst he's waiting for a court case and yet the funding for respite care has been exhausted. (Extreme example perhaps but one based in fact.)

Maybe instead of striking, all the carers could be thugs for a while and SS might have to do what they should have done years ago and reassess what they spend their money on.

    Signed

  • oh golly, ithought it was better in scotland... i was planning to move home, fortunetly i own outright, so i thought right i will move to where ther is a carers support group and full care help.... scotland... the i realised i could only afford orkney lol but still it has a better infastructure than north lincs rural areas, the only thing i go out of this are was a carers grant to learn to drive, and we dont get a motability car so i had to save for that. rofl !
still these things happen, and i agree god must think we an cope, i guess most days a i can. just wish i was better treated by society, i'd love to return to work, and care partime.
