what if we formed a union
what if we all needed two days off
how would socialservices cope
i'd like to find out
next year on carers week
why dont we take a few mins to stand up for ourselves
if 10 people in one town did it
it might be on the local news
if 1000 people did it
wouldnt the government notice
wouldnt the world notice
let me know your thoughts please

You would consider going on "strike" on someone you supposedly care about?

Exactly what are they supposed to do whilst you are striking?

You have to get noticed somehow :TLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0

I love my son far to much to conisider something like this. He is profoundly disabled and needs 24 hour care.
Are we supposed to just walk out and let the people we care about, and for, fend for themselves, or do we drop them off at the nearest hospital / SS department? As I said, I love him far too much to even think of going on strike.0 -
That's a misunderstanding of the term carer.
carers provide care to someone, they may not care about them at all, in fact there are many carers who grow to despise the person they care for, does not mean they would not provide them with care and thus be their carers.
Another tip never say carers look after a loved one! That can get a torrent of abuse! :eek:I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
i care for a husband with bi polar, a son with autism, a son with autism and bi polar and a.d.d. and chronic bowel condition, and my daughter who has raynaurds and now m.e., do i get help? no ! not enough money in my local ss ! so what if i said i was going in to hospital, or wanted a break somewhere.......... hmmm what happens if i got run over by a bus mr cow" I'm just a simple janitor, who can control people with my mind"0

If you got run over by a bus and were seriously injured do you mean?.....
You would go to hospital and your family would either go into care or a friend or family member would take over for you if your family are uncapable of taking care of themselves........the same as would happen with my family if something were to happen to me."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
no family , no friends capable, are not social services duty bound to help carers......if not what exactly are they for? ..... but who doesnt get services if the council tax must not rise....
ummm carers !!
correct.
if you are a carer of an 18 yr old or under you are not entitled to as much respite either... why's that?" I'm just a simple janitor, who can control people with my mind"0 -
I applied for the superdrug vouchers for carers week, i dont exactly know what for cos i never buy much, but when i do go into superdrug, my dh stays outside. Maybe thats classed as my respite!
Respite is a joke though, i used to tell ss/various professionals if they wanted to care for dh for 24 hours to see what i have to do, but they always refused (i wonder why
) i was lucky enough to have respite for a bit but dh is too anxious to be left alone with any strangers so it only lasted a very short while.
Someone here set up a local carers group, they threatened to strike, but never carried it through.0 -
Carers are the forgotten ones and yet as you all know they save the country £87billion. It may seem easy to say these words, but when you see the reality, I’m sure it would upset you as much as it does me. From the last census we can assume there are carers who have not been included in these statistics, the hidden carers of our society, because they do not think of themselves as carers."
