It WILL be available on pay as you go, but no pricing has been released yet.

Mmm more interesting, especially as (hopefully) you'll be able to buy it cheaper in the US to work in the UK and not having to worry about jailbreaking it and then it locking after a software update.

All of my friends have the latest phones. None of us email each other because unless you have a data plan on your phone it becomes quite costly to receive emails and attachments, whereas an MMS message doesn't cost anything to receive. MMS is simple, the recipient gets a message, the phone connects and downloads the picture. Even my mum can get them on the phone, so can my grandparents where with Email they'd be completely flummoxed!

I don't know about you, but my email account receives something in the region of 300-400 emails a day, I'd rather not try and deal with any of them on my phone ;)
I was just about to say exactly the same thing!

Horses for courses. Personally I can't see why you would spend 25p for something that will be received on a postage-stamp sized screen with quality to match; phones with decent screens like the iPhone and Viewty can receive email just as easily, and actually I like having all my mail go to the iPhone: that's the point of it! I take your point on data tariffs but someone has to pay and I guess I prefer that person not being me! (Selfish? Moi?) I'm not trying to be one of those annoying Apple fans who in immediate response to any perceived criticism says, "ah, but you don't want to do that anyway, you want this!" which is very annoying (as anyone who's ever asked about MSN and video on a Mac will know when someone pipes up about how they should be using Skype!) but it has always seemed to me that MMS is a solution in search of a problem. But I accept you do want that, and I think you will get it in July one way or another. So everyone's happy: I won't get my interface cluttered with a feature I don't want and which could cost me money if I press the wrong button, and you will get MMS!
I know exactly what you're saying alex; the only reason I use MMS is because I get them free on my price plan, and I don't get data. Each to his own I guess!

...which it unsdoubtedly will be by third parties as they ahve already done so on the jailbroken apps. It would be nice I suppose but you can send a photo from the iPhone using email as quickly as you can send an MMS and to as many people as you want. Email is free (that unlimited data again). MMS, on O2, are 25p, to each recipient. I am genuinely curious: why would you ever want to do somethign for 25p when you could do as near as dammit exactly the same thing with the same effort for free? To contact that one friend with a 2002 mobile that doesn't have email? (And sure there are lots of people with older phones but I suspect that these are the same people who say they just want their phone to be a phone and wouldn't know what MMS was if you hit them over the head with it.) What gives?

That's a good point Alex. I only really use the MMS facility for a handful of picture messages throughout the 18 month contract, most of them being daft joky type pictures! I suppose I could send them via email to the recipient as most people have email.

Another facility I find that I'm using alot of recently is the calendar and reminders, because I have a memory like a sieve! Is it an easy-to-use system on the iphone?
Apparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!
