No worries :D It's just one thing that really irks me! It must scare the dog too, imagine someone grabbing your head roughly and rubbing it into the carpet

I've found the best way to train a dog is to treat them like a child! Lots of treats for good behavior, and for punishment being ignored is the worst thing for a very playful puppy! :D

I just had a thought, if he is in a the conservatory, I wonder if you have foxes in your garden at night. I do, and the dogs go nuts. If they are by the back door and a fox is in the back garden, they bark, and a couple of times they squeezed through the cat flap. It was the funniest thing I woke up alone in the house, coudln't figure out where the dogs were, and they couldn't figure out what they were doing outside.

That might nake him bark (and possibly pee??)

He barked at 2.30 when my dad came in from work just opened the bedroom and told him to shut up and he did!! He woke at 7 and started whining let him out & he did his wee outside not in the pen! So why can't he hold it in inside??!! haha.

Scent marking in inappropriate places can often occur in male adolescents. Once the scent is established, it will encourage himto keep marking in that spot. Thoroughly clean the whole area...NOT with bleach or any substance that turns white in water like Dettol etc as these contain ammonia which smells like wee to the dog and will only encourage him to keep marking in that spot. A solution of biological washing powder and warm water should do the trick.

Hamish (Our Westie) has recently started doing this too! It started about 2 weeks ago with the horrific rain all week and he decided that he didn't like doing his business in the wet, so was doing it in the dry..........

That combined with the fact that he is a Master Escapologist is driving me potty!

I have the same problem with my dog Winston but he's 11. Been to the vet and basically got told it's cos he's old, nothing they can do, I just have to decided when I've had enough and have him put down. Needless to say I cried. I've now started putting down puppy training pads and trying to find somewhere I can buy incontinence bed sheets/pads which will be bigger.
Anybody got any ideas of how to get rid of the smell of dog pee? When we were going to the vets he had an accident in the boot of my parents car which I am currently borrowing (can't return it 'til I get rid of the smell or they'll kill me!!!)
I cleaned it up (3 days ago) and sprayed it with febreeze. I have now used the last of my febreeze and some dettol disinfectant spray on it and the smell still WON'T GO!

You can buy bellybands for incontinent dogs. Someone I know has a dog who has been incontinent for several years and she swears by these...as far as I know you can only buy them from America at present but I don't think they are very expensive and it's got to be worth a try if your dog is otherwise ok. Check out this site: http://www.bellybands.net/ but you'll probably find others by Googling.

Re: the odour in the car...try the biological washing powder & warm water solution that I mentioned before. The enzymes in bio washing powder breaks down the urine which no other detergent will do and allows all traces to be removed.

I agree with removing the water bowl about 6pm-ish.

Ah, let the poor dog have a drink, especially in this heat. Take his water away around an hour before bed - if necessary. This is what we did in toilet training but now that we have cracked it - he has water at all times. I think it's unfair to deprive a dog of water unless absolutely necessary.
