so quick question - if you've more than one tv in your house do you need more than one TV license?

No, not if it is one family or a joint tenancy.

RU sure about the last point? This used to be true 10 years ago but I believe it was changed a few years ago.

Sorry I misread the info here

it applies only to mobile homes,.....inc static caravan & moveable chalet (whatever that is). But you can use a TV powered by internal batteries anywhere, on your main home licence.

btw, a few of you talked about TV detectors, I would think They can only "detect" old style TV's, not modern plasma screens or LCD screen TV's or a Laptop used as a TV.

Er no, TV detectors detect signal which leaks down the aerial as noise generated by the tv tuner (the bit which turns the signal from radio waves into a picture I believe) not the Cathode Ray Tube inside TVs.

This means it's even possible to tell what signal is being watched due to the different frequencies being given off (I doubt this is the case with digital).

AFAIK there is nothing you can do about this, though ii think it's possible to reduce this during manufacture with better shielding.

I think that's right, though an electrical engineer can probably give you a better answer :)
