TV Licence Question

Hi.
I'm living in private halls of residence. They are 3 other people in my flat - all seperate tenants. We have to buy the tv licence for the TV in the common room in our flat but I would like to know:
If i have a TV in my room as well do I have to get a separate licenece? The reason I ask is because in my halls last year they provided a licence for the communal area but if you wanted your own TV you had to get another one.
Help?

It looks to me as though you will need a separate licence http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/students.jsp0

Yeah it does look like it, but that is so unfair it's just ridiculous.0

The problem is that you are separate tenants. If it was a joint tenancy you would not need the second licence for your room.0

You all need a seperate license to have a TV in your bedroom, but I *think* if you have a license for your bedroom, you don't also need a license for the communal area.
It would be best to call TV licensing and check though.0 -
It largely depends on who has how many TVs. Certainly, there need to be separate licences for each room.
So if there are 2 TVs, one in your room and one communal, then YOU should buy one licence. Then I think you could say the TV in the kitchen was also yours. I can't imagine TV Licensing taking 'The occupier of the kitchen' to court for no licence. Who would they write to?0 -
Each Locked door needs its own tv licence. End of storyCome to my garden in South Bucks and i'll find you a wasp...0

I was in a Halls of residence and they told me I'd need a separate license but I didn't get one, how are they going to check? They have bigger fish to fry.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

They know there could be quite a bit of revenue to be had, so they walk round the perimeter of the halls with hand-held detectors. If your room is nowhere near the perimeter you may be lucky as all the signals could get mixed. However, I wouldn't put it past them to switch on the detectors when they gain access to visit a victim!
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -

If you go to the link I have put, it states that a separate licence for the communal area is also required.0 -

Does anyone have any proof that these detectors actually exist? I always thought that it was a myth and they just went by their computer records, i.e. any address where they didn't have a record of a tv licence they then checked? Does anyone know different? What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!
