TV Licence Question

Not if it is owned by a student in a halls of residence they don't.0

Laptops are debateable since they run on internal batteries so I would suggest checking with the TV Licensing Authority before choosing this option, but it isn't cheap anyway. I would just suggest using internet TV, not exactly the same range of shows, but good enough considering you wont have all that much free time to watch TV anyway.0

At my uni they refused to let the tv detectors in :rotfl: :TGod save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0

Actually they're pretty cheap now - Under £100 for a USB one that works with Windows and Mac (so all you iBook fans are catered for too!).

It's not debateable, and it has already been confirmed with TVLA.0

This will only mean that they will be back with the legal documents necessary for them to gain unrestricted access and will undoubtedly nail every single unlicensed tv user.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

We have the same policy in all our halls (and students are reminded not to allow access to anyone they dont know).
Never heard of a succesful prosceution yet, doesnt mean it wont happen, but they usually just send a letter to every room and flat at the start of term, and then a follow up in November. Then, nothing.0

Someone has posted somewhere on the boards saying they were prosecuted, and it was expensive, but I don't remember who or where.stuwilky wrote:Never heard of a succesful prosceution yet, doesnt mean it wont happen, but they usually just send a letter to every room and flat at the start of term, and then a follow up in November. I rang them with this very question last week. A single licence is fine for a communal area and a single bedroom i.e. yours if you have your name on the licence. Any additional bedroom TV would need a separate licence unless there is a shared tennancy agreement.
I agree its a joke (money making scam), but this is the rule.0
