You say other supermarkets coupons aren't accepted at Tesco, in fact they have banners round here saying they DO want us to take in named competitors coupons (eg Morrisons spend and save).

And your suggestion we are "passing" £4.50 notes seems to be saying we are up to something.

Hmmm...I didn't spell out the rules about Morrisons & other Supermarkets' spend & save coupons as I thought everyone knew about that one by now. But for your benefit I will clarify it so you don't fall foul of that as well:

Tesco do accept spend & save coupons from other major Supermarkets. That is ONLY the conditional spend ones (e.g. £5 off when you spend £30).

Tesco do not accept other Supermarkets money-off coupons (e.g. 50p off Tetley tea, with Sainsburys logo on it). But unfortunately they will scan at Tesco (just as Tesco ones will scan at Sainsburys, for instance). It still doesn't mean they are OK or that Tesco have set their tills to accept them - they haven't. It's just that the large Supermarkets use the same barcode systems. It's one of the reasons that most self-scans are policed so carefully, some people try to get away with using any old bit of unacceptable rubbish in the coupon-slot if not watched (or if they pick on a poor young kid at a till).

And yes, anyone passing these dud £4.50 notes is indeed up to something. Same as if you pass other Supermarkets' money-off coupons. I stand by my previous comments, in fact I thought 'daft' and 'naive' were quite restrained ways of describing such behaviour.

As you know I have now started a discussion thread here about this thorny subject, where I hope it can be debated in a calmer way than on the newspaper thread:

    The coupons aren't dud.

They are genuine, available as either hard copies from the paper, or printed out from the net.

Tesco have accepted these coupons for well over a year now.

    Get real!

The real problem with the slots is con-men doing sleight of hand and using a real coupon to scan, then switching to a bus ticket to put through the slot.

    It is indeed.

But I'd prefer to save money for xxxxxxyears than make a few extra £4.50s now and no more coupons in the future, because mark my words, that is what'll happen

Your words have been marked. How much are you betting on it?

Has anyone gotten their money back for the invalid water coupon that charged us twice instead of gave it free? I'm shocked that this just goes unnoticed. Think of how many people bought the newspaper and got the free water across the UK. For each of those Mr T not only had the item sale, but also got an extra free £0.99. Plus, a lot of people probably bought the paper in Mr T for the free water, which adds up for more sales.

So essentially Mr T raked in thousands of free pounds from this offer alone, but yet it's not some massive refund? I contacted the email customer skirmishes and they said I'd have to take it up with my local store.

For £0.99, a single person probably isn't that fussed. However, the fact this took place on a national level makes it a real scam.
