I posted this late last night in yesterday's thread, and I doubt anyone's going back there now, so here it is again if anyone can help.

For those who actually use the DM vouchers to buy a book:
If the book is on sale in the store, can you still use the voucher to get 4.50 off the sale price? The small print says it can't be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount. The regular price is 8.99, meaning the coupon would make it 4.49 if deducted from the full price. The book costs about 4.50 at both Amazon and Waterstones online, so the coupon isn't offering a better deal than you can find elsewhere. I suppose it's good if you weren't going to order enough to get free shipping, but we order from Amazon all the time and can easily spend 15 quid there, so it seems pointless to use a coupon unless it makes the book cheaper than the 4.50 I'd pay at Amazon. Anyone know?

I thought that Tesco had blocked the tills so they don't accept this coupon anymore.

They had as of last months ... I have no personal experience of this as I didn't use any in Tesco ... but they may do the same with this one if they haven't done so already ...

I know I may be putting a cat amongst the coupon pigeons .. and Coupon-mad will likely get me in a dark corner at play time ... but I use these in Waitrose ... I have queried many times and they say they are happy to take Book Tokens ... :o

I will stand back and wait for the explosion ... fingers in ears ....

I suppose either Waitrose are happy to take the hit or they may actually have joined the "scheme" or whatever and can redeem them maybe? I think you should have a clear conscience - if you've asked and they've said yes, then no probs! Just wish I had a Waitrose near me!
  • Skibster - have tried in the past to use the DM book token to buy the actual book at Tescos and Asda and have been knocked back.

Just a reminder that the Daily Express is available at BHS and Debenhams cafes at a reduced price- 50p I think.

No!!!! No explosion needed. If Waitrose say yes, then it's not a problem. It was always hit and miss with Tesco, and in my opinion Tesco blocking the coupon via their tills was the best thing they could possibly do. It was worth loosing the use of that coupon, if it meant the Coupon policy continues.. It is possibly the only thing about their coupon policy that is now straightforward.

I have asked at the CS desk at my local Waitrose, and they have said that they do accept the DM book coupon, internet printed or original. The only problem is my Waitrose also adopt the 30% coupon policy, and I cannot afford to spend too much in there in the first place!

Think we're all waiting for someone to try the DM book coupon in Mr T's and report back before buying any.

It does have a different barcode so time will tell if it scans or not

To be honest I dont think It is worth it trying the daily mail book token as im sure by now the staff have been well informed not to accept it, even if the till does accept the new one. That will no doubt get blocked by Monday morning.
