Tesco pulling products?

Tesco buyers get rated internally based on how many of their products that they deal with are in stock on the shelf. If a supplier, for whatever reason, cannot supply a product, the buyers get rated badly. So the buyers mark the item as 'Discontinued' as a trick to avoid getting a bad rating. It might then come back into stock a few months later.

Also, there is only room for a certain number of products in total in store. If a new product is launched and makes it into Tesco, then an old, less well selling product, will be discontinued to make room on the shelves.

BTW frozen tuna steaks have been marked as being discontinued for a few months now, and are at 10p for two steaks. Bargain!

I have had this issue twice now with vegetarian bacon over recent years. I tend to stock up at least it lasts a few weeks because I am sick to death of it disappearing and not even a product label out indicating out of stock

Fish Pie! It's been missing from the chilled cabinets since November, the gap remained, then it went, and now the ticket has gone too :(

If you mean the enormous fish pie - £7 - containing salmon, I'd been missing it too! But it was back last week.
  • Anyone else managed to get value tin foil recently? There is a big gap on the shelves and I haven't been able to get any for weeks!

It was marked down to half price in my Tesco last week - then there was an empty space then the rolls reappeared at normal price.

I dug the last roll out from behind the greaseproof at the back of the shelf a couple of weeks ago, then there was no sign for a while, but I noticed there was a full box back again the other day. Never thought to check the price.

Don't know what the next best one is (Wilkinsons maybe?) - we use quite a bit as it's perfect for wrapping lunches etc, and for the kids crafts as it's nice and thin (it became part of the Apollo 11 vehicles last week).

    :)

I had a conversation just last week with a woman who supplies organic meats to a number of outlets, but not Tesco. She told me an interesting story about how Tesco measure the popularity of certain products. They take a product off the shelf after a certain time and monitor the number of complaints they get. If the number is not significant, they replace this brand with one of their own. Result - more money for Mr Tesco. When I think of the number of times this has happened to me and I didn't bother to do anything about it! From now on, I'm going to raise it every time it happens.

    Hmm

usually they do this when they are about to change the packaging and need to get rid of the old stuff quickly. I would have thought that they wouldn't have had any trouble shifting it though at full price - it is significantly cheaper than the tesco regular brand alternative and i only use it for wrapping sandwiches.

also miss the frozen tikka massala, think it was popular as quite often out of stock, but nowhere to be seen now!
