Yes I quite like that. I like more unusual plants and definitely the more exotic ones although they don't like the uk!

It might look exotic, but a day lily or hemerocallis is usually tough as old boots!!!

Yes, i bought some bulbs from Lidl then looked them up on-line & the main point the information mentioned was just how hardy they are!.

Actually Cleome will flower but it is tender so you either treat as an annual by planting seeds every year or pot it up and keep inside over winter. I know it works well as I grew it from some seed I bought in Thailand whilst on holiday.

  • Not last summer but the one before a colleague gave me a bit of day lily. It has sat in a plastic pot at the side of the house since then. Not watered or anything just left to fend for itself. I was tidying up yesterday and the pot was on it's side, half the soil out of it and the lily was still alive! It's been given a home now. Please don't report me to the plant cruelty police.

It definitely looks like a vinca to me. Possibly vinca minor. It will spread well but is readily available in garden centres at this time of year.

Some form of Lithodora looks more likely to me.

Leaves look very unperiwinkleish and a bit low for speedwell.

But then the leaves could be a little different...

Best bet is to try an alpine nursery - if yours is flowering now then theirs should be too.

I think it may be Pratia pedunculata.

Gingers (hedychium), cannas and dahlias are exotic and can be overwintered in an unheated greenhouse or a shed.
