Just to add, if you don't pay, technically you can be charged with obtaining services by deception which is a proper full fat criminal offence and one you'd have to put on a job application.

I can't honestly see why the OP is moaning.

£2 is nothing to pay - it's the proper bus fare, nothing more, nothing less.

If you did this on a train, you would be talking about a far higher amount as a penalty fare.

Wearing school uniform and/or looking young is completely irrelevant.

Firstly, the age of criminal responsibility is 10. Secondly, they wouldn't be suing the OP so they can take them to court.
Only saying what my company does. They don't bother doing anyone under 18 as they have to go youth court, and there's a huge amount of evidence required.

It's annoying, i know. if my daughter forgets her buspass, she's not allowed to get on and this is a school service with the same driver every day!!

I think you should pay up and forget about it. It's not worth the worry and hassle over £2. You're lucky to get Free public transport for kids. It doesn't happen in the rest of the country. :D

    Everyone forgets things.
And some have not learnt them yet.
But the fact is that I do have an Oyster card and they should have a system in place which can check in cases like this.
Yes, it's called an Oyster Card reader, but you have to be really good and carry your Oyster Card for it to work. There is a back up system, which is to issue a yellow ticket for £2.00 and rely on the honesty of the customer to pay. But if too many people don't pay, they may decide that this system is more hassle than they want, and take that system away.
Has anyone else had experience with this? Do they chase you up for the £2-00?
No experience. But if you want to find out, then don't pay. And if they do chase you, it may end up being more than £2.00. Welcome to the world of grownup choices.

Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

after 10 days they send you a reminder letter with a 25 pound admin fee.after another 14 days they send you a final letter with another admin fee total now 50 pounds plus 2 pound fare.if still no payment they pass onto a debt recovery firm who add their own charges.lets go back to the contract you signed when you first got your free to travel oystercard.it says,if you forget to carry your oystercard you will pay the full cash fare of 2 pounds to travel with no refund.is it clear enough for you,it is a privilidge not a right to travel free that hard pressed londoners pay through their taxes.

Just send them a letter and say someone has given your details and you know nothing about this. You have a free Oyster card and there is no need to pay. They wont persue and even if they do they will give up over £2 as you can always get free legal aid as you dont work.

And when they check the CCTV, MillwallFC will do bread with you for fraud.

As you're articulate enough to come on here, a well written letter (by hand or recorded delivery) stating the number of your photocard may well resolve the issue in your favour.
