All four walls painted red will certainly make the room 'close in'. Why don't you try just a feature wall and only paint the wall behind the bed red, keeping the other walls perhaps cream?

    yea i thought about that.

but the wall where my bed is, it is sorta not a full flat wall, its indented if u knowt what i mean. by about a foot or so where the bed slots in.

    would it matter?

Even better, it adds interest! If you hate it when it is finished, it takes less than an hour to repaint over with a roller. Go on, be brave and just go for it.

a small hand sander would be pretty hard work on floorboards i would think. You can hire sanders for floorboards now, not as cheap but probably a hell of alot quicker / easier.

as for which one to buy, I would get one that has dust extraction / capturing as the worst part of sanding is the cleaning afterwards, anything to help here will be worth the extra £ in my opinion, personally

Yes a flat bed sander is good for walls, but if you intend to do anything intricate, get a little mouse sander as has some good little attachments. If money is tight just buy some sheets of sandpaper and wrap it round a rectangular block of wood or something similar. Keep the windows open and the doors shut, otherwise you will be wiping fine layers of dust for the next year!

Then give this putting up Lining Paper a go. i have never papered before.

You take a picture of the room, upload the photo, then can drag some colours into your 'scrapbook and paint the walls. I have just finished a room, plain on 3 walls and 'Pumpkin' on the feature wall. Looks really good and not TOO overwhelming!
    Best of luck!

Oh and lining isn't difficult at all. Give yourself plenty of time. Make sure you buy a pasting table, a mini roller for the edges, a wallpaper brush and a plumb bob (to keep it straight). Use extra strength paste and make sure you leave it on a while to soak into the paper. A paint roller is good for quickly applying the paste.
If you do end up with the odd bubble after it has dried, make a small slit with a stanley knife, then use a hyperdermic needle to squirt a little bit more glue behind (like the ones suppled with printer refilling kits!) and then roller it.
Honestly, if I can do it, you can!

i got my lining paper today, could either get 1000 or 1700 so i got the 1700. i hope its ok, it feels quite stiff like Card.

I might attempt to put a length of it up tomorrow. Painted Ceiling today and gone back over the walls, polyfillin and removing bits here n there.
