I loved the tip about spray polish.
Mine is to have soup or curry in the slow cooker and a loaf in the bread machine.
Washing blowing on the line and dishes in washer - goes a long way.
Hate to repeat myself but the house is untidy enough to be happy and just about clean enough to be healthy!

Ive not read through all the messages on this thread but saw the programme in question.
I thought it was very sad that it took something like this to happen for the cleaning obsessed woman to realise whats important in life.
We all get carried along by work and chores and the boring things we have to do to make life run smoothly, but this was an extreme case and should give us all a wake up call.!!
Family and friends and enjoying life are whats important!!
YES cleaning is a necessity and none of us want to live in a pig sty but there has to be a cut off point. 15 hours cleaning????? OMG!! My house is lucky if it gets that a month!!
I do what is necessary to keep it ticking over and along with an almost full time job I think I do well. If anything Id rather spend time cooking so we dont eat crap than obsessively clean but then you do whatever fits into your life.

I think the whole family had many issues which needed to be addressed away from the glare of the cameras. The poor children had been denied an education and all of the family were colluding in a mass obsessive compulsive behaviour pattern that is so very destructive. This should have not been on tv, how exploitative. Those poor children, I feel so sad for them. I would give them a roof over their heads. Fancy having to have a wash before you go in the front room! Today I have done some washing, put away the dishes and made a stew but nothing out of the ordinary. 15 hours a day doing housework is 15 hours a day spent avoiding real life and real problems.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

What a soft bunch we are eh LOL! But you're right, that's the most important thing is seeing the kids happy and healthy - sod the housework if it takes up so much of your time you can't enjoy being with your family.
I really felt for that poor woman, and especially her kids, last night. Even my youngest was moved by it all (and also asked if she had OCD) so I was really pleased at the end when she woke up and realised what her life had been for 15 years. I also sense a divorce on the cards in the not too distant future because it seems it was her hubby keeping her down there all this time - bit of a control freak? - and he doesn't appear altogether happy with the new happy-go-lucky Cheryl"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I agree with the divorce, tahts the 1st thing i thought at the end of the programme..It would be interesting to see what she is like in 6 months time! He was/is a bully, his own insecurities make him control her!In this trusted place U can erase

It's just whenever I visit friends their houses always seem so spick and span and they have kids too and I wonder how they do it.
Maybe they do what my sister used to do when her kids were pre-school age ... she'd get up before them in the morning to do the cleaning, then when they got up it was a case of breakfast, dressed, wash the breakfast pots then bundled into the car to go out for the day! Usually landing on either my doorstep, or parents if it was a weekend, so her kids could mess up our places instead and also get a freebie lunch thrown into the bargain
When she eventually got home it was dinner, bath and bed so they never got a chance to mess up her place"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Exactly what I said to my kids as the programme was coming to an end!!
As she stood waiting to be reunited with her slave driver....sorry husband....she had tears in her eyes and said " I can't do this!"
I felt so sorry for her.......it seemed like a veil had been lifted and she'd seen him for what he was for the first time.
Good on her for changing her life though. And I think the kids will look back on this programme as the moment theirs lives changed for the better!! Kids need to be in contact with the outside world........how would they have gone on for the rest of their lives if this programme hadnt happened to them? I dread to think!! :eek:Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600
