Well I went to Aldi and got a couple of the silicone muffin tray to do my yorkshire puddings in, but now I have a question please.

Do I need to put a bit of lard in the muffin tray first? Im confused as I read that you dont pre heat them, just pop in the batter and then into the oven. So does this mean you need no lard to grease them at all?

    Thanks guys

I dont use lard, I use either Sunflower/ Veg oil and fill it up nearly a quarter.

I think you need to use the preheated lard / oil in the silicone as its the important part of making the Yorkshire pudding - this is how they get crispy on the outside and yummy in the inside! :)

Well as a yorkshire lass I still make them the good old fashioned way with lard :-)

Yes exactly what I thought, but on the packaging of the silicone bakeware it says do not pre heat? I just cant see how you can not pre heat with yorks puds?

    Thanks peeps :-)

Well I preheated the silicone tins, but only for a couple of mins, then popped in my batter.

The puds were lovely but slightly crispier and browner than normal, I think they must cook a bit quicker in the silicone. Very easy to clean though, will be throwing away my metal tins in favour of these.

Good old Aldi is costing me a fortune.......... now whats on next weeks specials lol

That's the thing with these silcone baking tins - you SAVE loads of money cos you don't have to keep chucking them!!
  • I baked some buns in mine for first time yesterday, did not grease them and they stuck or fell apart as I tried to get them out. So tried some more with butter smeared round them and some came out OK others still broke in half. I suspect I might not be leaving them to cool for long enough but don't want them to go soggy. How long should I be leaving them to cool for?
    Alison.
PS anyone sighted any in the Huddersfield area yet apart from Tradex?

Well I dont know if it makes any difference but if you got those in poundland, they did feel very thin compared to the aldi ones. Maybe they dont work as well?

Its just a thought, and its what put me off the poundland ones as I could almost see through the silicone. The ones in Aldi were far thicker and they didnt stick at all. I would be interested to know if anyone has tried both types?
