oh I'm glad I read this thread

I've been thinking of investing in some silicone muffin 'tins' to save on buying the paper cases because I thought silicone was non-stick :o

if it's not, can anyone tell me what's the advantage over metal bakeware? don't want to waste my cash replacing tins that don't need replacing after all

I too have seen silicone 'tins' for sale recently in Home Bargains and was wondered whether to buy some. My current ones have gone rusty and need replacing. Should I stick to metal or change to silicone?

    Opinions please?

Hi, I have a silicone muffin tray and I love it. I used a bit of butter to grease the first time but i haven't since. just turn it up side down and they fall out-great.
I think that the best reason for changing from metal to silicone is that he silicone ones look groovy!!(or is that just me!!).
I can't wait to replace everything else with silicone but it is a bit pricy. Better start saving up.

    Thanks everyone.

PP - I didn't get any instructions with them  it doesn't say anywhere on the box about greasing them.

Any thoughts about the cakes not rising?

Lucasmum - Have you got 'The Professional Cookware Company' near you? That's where I got mine from. A 12 hole muffin tin, 4 large hole muffin tin and a loaf tin for £20.

hmmm, thanks for that, I might buy just one muffin tray to start with (I want a red one!) & see how I get on with that, & if it's no good, I can use it for freezing my batch made sauces so it won't be a complete waste :)

I won't be replacing anything else though, I don't fancy the bulging loafs mentioned by one poster above & I can't imagine a silicone baking sheet/tray :rotfl:
  • I got a couple of the silicone muffin tray out of Home Bargain last week and made yorkshire puddings in them....they turned out fantastic. I brushed the inside with oil.

I sometimes had problems with my silicone bakeware.

Someone recommended leaving the cakes to cool completely before trying to remove them and that has really worked for me.

  • I have the silicone muffin bakeware and I use them for muffins or Yorkshire Puddings. I've never had a problem with them but I'm sure I have read on other threads on here that the cakes can sometimes stick to the muffin tray, but I lightly butter mine and as of yet, nothing has stuck.

A friend of mine has the silicone fairy cake cases. She got them from M&S, says they're great.
