yes.... that's very true... what im saying is that when you purchase a DSL router it has RJ45 connections... when you purchase an ADSL router, they have RJ11 connections.

ADSL routers using RJ11 interface adapters and DSL routers use RJ45, so if you buy the wrong router you simply will not be able to plug it in. Even with an adapter, it doesn't work... it's different technology. If your with telewest, it's called cable broadband. If your with most ISP's using a BT line, its ADSL and you'll need an ADSL router.

    I don't think that's correct.

ADSL is a form of DSL as I said before. It's not different. Like you get ADSL, RADSL, VDSL, SDSL, they're all forms of DSL.

As far as terminology is concerned, there's effectively no such thing as an "ADSL router" or "DSL router". You mean an ADSL router/modem. It's the inbuilt modem that makes it connection specific (hence the RJ11 for the phone line), otherwise it's just a plain old router (no RJ11 socket).

A Router (no internal modem, just a standalone router) is basically a box that sits within a network of computers forwarding packets around, so it doesn't matter what type of internet connection you have (ie adsl or cable). Here's a good definition.
