yes, I am using the link from you mentioned, press continue despite the error message and get a total amount of £100 for the wireless router and adaptor. I tried today at office PC and it still gives me error saying the code I use is not valid for this item. Lucky are those who could use it.. :(
I tried again-this time I picked the adaptor instead of the PCI card. Gave the following "This offer has expired. Please refer to the details in your promotional offer for further information." doh!
Now, the offer has expired according to the promotion webpage.

£100 is a bit to much. As one of the guys above said, Netgear are great. As are Linksys, D-Link & Belkin... On the more expensive side of the market you can get Draytek wireless routers but I'm sure you need this sort of functionallity.

One VERY important thing to consider is the major difference between a DSL router and an ADSL Router, as your getting broadband with telewest, you'll need a DSL router. These are generally cheaper than ADSL routers.

I can get a Netgear WGR614 Cable/DSL 802.11g 54 Mbps Wireless Router for about £40 (plus vat) and Netgear WG511GE Wireless 802.11g Cardbus Adapter for £26 (plus vat again). That's about £78 all in... how desperately do you need it?

Are you a seller? I want the ADSL modem router for £40. :p
  • I too can recommend the BT Voyager 2100, buy it in PC World at the moment, and you can buy the Wireless laptop or desktop adapter for only £10

If you getting just a router (and a seperate modem), like I mentioned previously, have a look at the KCorp KLG575. It's a super-g (108mbps) wireless router, and very good. With regards to wireless range and speeds it's one of the fastest around (except for MIMO capable routers). And at £40-45 it's very cheap.

Is that correct? ADSL is a form of DSL, so difference doesn't come into it.

And a router is a router, it doesn't matter whether it's being used for a cable or DSL connection. If it were a router with inbuilt modem then it would. It sits behind the modem, so it doesn't handle anything to do with the connection, it merely "routes" the information coming from the modem to the computers (and vice versa).

    You have two options:

    1) Buy a router with inbuilt modem. You'll need to make sure it's a Cable modem/router if this is the case.

    2) Get a modem. And get a router. The modem needs to be a cable modem, but the router is just a router, it's not connection specific.

    Hi Wolfman,

ADSL routers using RJ11 interface adapters and DSL routers use RJ45, so if you buy the wrong router you simply will not be able to plug it in. Even with an adapter, it doesn't work... it's different technology. If your with telewest, it's called cable broadband. If your with most ISP's using a BT line, its ADSL and you'll need an ADSL router.

Tara - yes, I am a reseller... but it's probably inappropriate of me to sell you goods as a result of your posting on the board! It would also probably not be in your best interest... I just had a look, my cost price is £35.67 + vat. So the cost, to you, would be 41.91 inclusive of VAT. On top of that, delivery is £9.95 - plus for direct shipment to you it would cost a further £5.50 - so in total, it'd cost about £70+ to get it to you!! Which completly defies the object... so there we go, pop to your local shop and pick one up :D

    Best of luck

  • Hi,

I found the advice on https://www.adslguide.org.uk invaluable. They have a hardware review section that covers, in depth, adsl kit, plus they also have message boards where you can ask for advice, read comments on suppliers etc. I purchased a Draytek modem/router following advice on the site and it has done everything that they said it would. Hope this is of some help.

    Regards

DSL = Phone, whether it's Assymetric or Symetric (ADSL/SDSL)

    Cable = cable.
