CHildren do need a higher percentage of fat in their diets than adults. You need fats to metabolise hormones. WHy do so many people have to take fat supplements these days! Evening primrose, omega 3 and so on... Make your own in a fryer and at elast they will have less salt than the bought ones;)

    Hi there

You can get a gadget that goes in the microwave... It has slots in and you stick in slices of potato in standing up....set it off and it makes crisps... I havent used one, but im sure someone will be along who has....

You could always swap some veg crisps in exchange for cutting out fat somewhere else in the diet. It doesn't need to be every day.

And if you choose the right oil, what you consume in the crisps might actually be better than what you're giving up elsewhere - depends on your overall diet.

I used to make micro veg and potato crisps when I did Slimming world. You just need to cut very thin slices (I used a peeler), put them on a plate sprayed with Frylight and then micro until they go crispy. They are only good if eaten straight away though, they don't taste so good if you eat them after an hour or so.

Found this recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/159598 but I think that they missed out the "Slice thinly" instruction!
  • Hi everyone

My 18 month son will not eat apples however I have just had some dried apple crisps for him to try and he loved them. However at 70p a pack I think they are a bit expensive!! Is there any way to make them myself? could you do a similar thing with other fruit? I know there are vegetable crisps but had never seem fruit crisps before?

    thanks

I make them using a food dehydrator that I got from Tchaibo last year. It cost £26 to buy but doesn't cost very much to run. Thinly sliced apple takes 5-8 hours to dry to crispness, depending on size and thickness and just how crispy you want them to be.

My DGS doesn't like fruit so I turn apples and pears into "chips" with one of those wavy cutters. He'll eat them because he likes the idea of fruit chips, even though they taste the same as slices of fruit.
