    In answer to your question:

"The cleaning action of a sonic toothbrush is actually based on two separate mechanisms. One of the mechanisms is a conventional technology, similar in nature to that employed by all other types of toothbrushes. The second cleaning action of sonic toothbrushes is based on a new technology that is entirely unique to them.
The primary mode of cleaning produced by a sonic toothbrush is created by the scrubbing action of the brush's bristles on the surfaces of teeth. Of course this method of cleaning teeth is not new. All toothbrushes, both electric and manual, rely on this same principle for removing dental plaque.

A secondary cleaning action is also produced by sonic toothbrushes and it is based on new technology. This cleaning action is founded in the intense speed at which the bristles of the sonic toothbrush vibrate. This vibratory motion is able to impart energy to the oral fluids that surround teeth (such as saliva). The motion of these agitated fluids is capable of dislodging dental plaque, even beyond where the bristles of the toothbrush actually touch. Only a sonic toothbrush can make this claim."

I wanted one as I heard they can reverse gum disease!! I had this during pregnancy, not a big problem but my gums have receeded a little. Now I know where the term long in the tooth comes from!!!

I wanted one of these for christmas and was literally searching yesterday, its a good job I went to sleep earlier than normal, as I wouldn't have read your points of view and would have been duped by all the hype!!!!

    Thanks

    :rotfl:

I decided to invest in a Phillips Sonicare Deluxe last year after a horrendous tooth extraction experience. The experience was so bad that It made me really want to care more (i've always brushed x2 a day with a manual) for my teeth to avoid another extraction in the future. So besides cutting out sugar, I researched sonic toothbrushes and I was so impressed with the reviews I decided to buy one.

One year on and I couldn't live without my Sonicare now. My teeth are whiter, smoother and I never have bleeding gums like I used to with a manual. My mouth and teeth feel a 100 times fresher and cleaner.

The biggest thing is changing a manual toothbrushing habit of a life time to a sonic. When you initially use a sonic its a bit of a strange sensation but you soon become adjusted to it. I personally think you need to give a sonic toothbrush at least 6 months of constant usage to be converted.

Having said this, they aren't for everyone but its worth giving them a whirl :)

Read page 3 first, well it came up first!!! sos, now i am sold will check on amazon and if I can get it for that price will give it a try and then if you like will give you my unbiased opinion and also whether it did have any "reverse effects!!"
