Every entry level Yamaha guitar I have played has been lightyears ahead of any entry level Fender or Encore guitar

I need a bit more information to give a sensible reply.

How old is your daughter and how big is she?

This is very important as if she is young and/or small, she will need a ¾ or even ½ sized guitar. If she is about 13 and over and average or bigger for that age, then she will probably be ok with a full sized guitar.

Don’t buy new. 95% of new guitars bought for children get played about twice and then get put away to languish expensively in a bedroom cupboard or end up on ebay.

Let someone else take the depreciation hit and buy yourself a second hand bargain on ebay or similar.

£150 is far too much to spend of a first guitar for a child. My advice is to spend £50 to £100 second hand.

You can’t go far wrong with a Squier though there are plenty of other decent budget brands. Stagg and Yamaha are also very good. There are many other decent makes but avoid very cheap unbranded guitars as they are usually junk.

What sort of music does she like? This can influence choice of guitar style.

    She will need:

    A guitar
    An amplifier
    A guitar to amplifier lead
    A strap
    A few plectrums or picks
    A decent basic tutor book
An electronic tuner. These are far better than pitch pipes for a beginner.

A metronome is nice to have but not essential for the early stages

She will not need a hard case unless she is regularly transporting her guitar to lessons or gigs and even them a decent soft case would do the job.

I have sent you a pm.

Well it probably comes down to one of these two situations:

    1) They don't take as much of a shine to the guitar as expected so it's not much money lost, but you'll be lucky to sell it for much at all.

    2) They do and you need to upgrade to something better soon.

As mentioned above, the ebuyer cheapies are ok and ideal for the novice with straight necks and a good action height. I got one for my DD to learn on - before she's allowed on my Gibson LP! I was impressed enough to buy one for myself!!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

We bought a couple of KCC Fender copies from Ebuyer. They now have the 'Stage' range on sale which look the same! They are all made in China, are cheap as chips but do the job! You won't be much out of pocket if your DDs interest wanes! NB we also bought a couple of their acoustics for those quieter moments!!

This is the sort of thing:
