I know next to nothing about guitars!
0nly that Ibanez a really good brand, but that's it!
Birthday soon and only thing my DD wants is an electric guitar......
HELP! .......Can anyone give me some pointers on how to shop for a good quality starter pack? or recommend something you've bought yourself and are pleased with?
Looking to pay around £150-170 New................. or better still, buy secondhand - However, would need a lot more knowledge before I could begin to go there!
Thanks in advance

A Squier Strat is a good first guitar, should be just over £100, and you could probably get a good amp/guitar combo too.
Get a clip-on tuner too, can't live without mine and it was only £10!0 -
This is what I would recommend if you are after a kit. Bear in mind the amp that comes with it won't be good, but it'll make noise, so you don't need two guesses what will be on the Christmas wishlist

The guitar is alright as far as beginner guitars go. Yamaha do make decent kit, and the gear in this one will probably be better quality than the bigger name brands.0 -
The Squier Strat comes recommended by most people, including me
I got one from here http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/21347 0 -
Thanks for the replies :T
What are the must have features for guitarists and what features can be done without unless you are a really serious musician?

As others say the Squire Strat is the one to go for. Got mine with an amp for about £150 quid (many moons ago) both still going strong.
To be honest most guitars come with everything on that you would need. Buy a good quality hard case for it too.
I bought mine from Flying Pig Instrument Supply Co. I would suggest buying a copy of Total Guitar or similar and looking in there for companies offering starter deals.0 -
If its for a beginner, wouldn't you do better with one of these ....

Squire Strat is a fine enough guitar for a biginner for sure.
bear in mind, if you buy in a shop haggle like crazy, I got something like a hundred quid off my last guitar
