Not necessarily. Just looked at my own out of interest for the profile I've had for years. The only info it gives is that I'm male (which theoretically I could have lied about). Worth checking for the OP but the person would have to be quite dumb to use real details while doing this kind of thing. I used my yahoo account quite legitimately for mundane things and even mine seems like it's completely anonymous."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks but the link will not work ?
I have had a discussion with my DD re the dangers etc, and I regularly check her msn site, her profile is set to 14 yr old, she is 13.5, although she does look a lot older, so anyone looking at her profile can see her age, she had a friend sleeping round at the weekend, and maybe they have been on different sites to normal. I will try again with the link later, have tried the yahoo phone number but was put on hold for ages, will try again later.
Tried another e-mail to the bloke, but it bounced back again, will see what her Email says later.
Thanks for all replies0 -

Type/copy http://profiles.yahoo.com/username into the address bar and replace "username" with the bit before "@yahoo.co.uk""She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks superscaper, just tried with his name, but there is no such user profile, I will ring yahoo again tomorrow, but it looks like he has disabled that profile, he probably has a new one, and is bothering other youngsters
Thanks all for your help0 -
I would suggest there is little you can do about this person. Even if you did successfully identify and block this individual, there are many more weirdos surfing the nett. Far better to work with your daughter and maybe her friends so that you can trust her to recognise some of the dangers for herself. I do not wish to suggest your concerns are not well founded, but it does seem like your daughter has it under controlbut is asking for photos, and as soon as she said no, he went off line."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

First off, your daughter was smart enough to say no when he asked for a photo, so that's great.
Second, have you tried googling his email address, or just the bit before the @ ?
Perhaps he's not very bright and has used the name elsewhere. I'd check the usual sites if you're wanting to do some investigation.
Missile's spot on though, this probably hasn't been the first and definitely won't be the last weirdo who talks to her online. There's nothing you can do to prevent them trying it on, all you can do is monitor her use and make sure she's sensible enough to realise what's going on, which she is by the sound of things. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
sorry, meant to say the profile page gives any details that the user has chosen to input.. may give leads to where they are from..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Social networking sites are as much about keeping in contact with the people you already know as they are about meeting new people.
What could she possibly have to hide? Troll much? They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I'd be surprised if Yahoo could identify this person. Anyone can set up a webmail address with little or no personal info.
I'd suggest you do some research on how to interpret e-mail headers. Buried in the headers of the message will be details of every computer that it has passed through. This will probably include the IP address of the computer that was used to send it. From this you could find out which ISP the sender was using and they would very probably be able to identify him.
I'm afraid I've no idea how likely they are to do this. Presumably it depends on the seriousness of the case. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't investigate unless legally required to do so, so you'd have to persuade the police to get involved.0
