Hi I hope someone can help me, my daughter (13) has had an inapropriate E-mail from someone, who by the way he talks is an adult, is there any way I can 'find' ( ie do a serch online )this person, I believe she was talking to him on msm, I do log all her internet use, and its generally just her and mates talking, but this is (on his part) a more adult conversation. Is there anyway I can find him ?
Thanks
Thanks

I would doubt that you could find out exactly who/how old this
guy is, but I could be wrong(I'm no expert)
You could report the user id to MSN I would imagine, or
alternatively you could report it to your local police station as
I am sure they would be interested if this guy is a possible
peado/predator.
Do the messages ask for any personally identifiable info, phone number,
school, favourite hang-outs that kind of thing?
Hope this helps."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Best to report it to the police, the police would be albe to track him down with all their safisticated gadgets these days, but it depends how serious it is in their eyes.
Or you could reply to the emails yourself and try to find out more about him by pretending to be your daughter.0 -
set up a account and talk to him through that? see if he will reveal anything but be careful not to be mistaken for someone dodgey yourself.
if you want to reprt him you can link through to the ceop website on the bbc panorama website.0 -
MSN prevents user's IP addresses from being seen by anyone they're talking to - I would advise as above re the police - if you have logs, keep hold of them as evidence of dates/times/content.
MSN may only block the user ID, but a new one can be created in minutes.
I'm assuming the email sender was using a hotmail address or similar?Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

Hi thanks for all the help, no he is not asking what school or address, but is asking for photos, and as soon as she said no, he went off line.
I have just contacted the police, who said they can do nothing to help, but I should contact his ILP provider
. His E-mail address is @yahoo.co.uk, does that mean I have to contact yahoo ?
I did e-mail him this morning, but got a message back saying the account has been disabled, does this mean he has shut it down ?
Thanks all for the replies0 -
sounds like the account must have been shut down by him or yahoo then if its been disabled.
Might be best contacing yahoo about it anyway. 020 7131 1000 is meant to be their customer service number at Yahoo, but i haven't tried it.0 -
You could try searching for the email address he used for yahoo on various search engines. Sometimes doing that'll chuck up details that someone's entered into other websites if they use the same email address - you may be able to find alternative contact details for him or pages with things like photos / offline groups he's a member of, etc.
It'd probably be worth investigating where this bloke found her details, too. Maybe she's joined a new site or online group and posted something up that makes her seem like an attractive target for this sort of behaviour, or she just hasn't put her age on there and people are assuming she's an adult.I had some rather steamy emails from strangers back when I was that age, but they were all innocent mistakes on the part of the people who'd sent them because I'd either not mentioned my age or lied about it to get onto sites that block access to children, and most people online would assume I was about 30 or 40 from my writing skills back then. I told anyone who approached me that they'd probably be better off chatting up someone ten years older. :rotfl: People who send children dodgy messages online don't *always* do it intentionally, though of course he could indeed be a creepy weirdo who needs to be locked up.

Forward his e mail to abuse@yahoo.co.uk. However it seems possible someone else has done it if his account has been disabled.
I would suggest you have a discussion with your daughter re dangers but do not be too controlling or she may become secretive. It is easy for youngsters to log on at a friends, at school or in internet cafe."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
The email address may never have been real and could easily have been spoofed. All you can do is report it to the relevant authorities. You would need to be very specific with them to about the emails contents and possilby supply a print out.0
