Hi nickyhutch, I too am doing low carb at the moment. I've been successful in the past with Atkins (lost 3 stone) - I'm not good at following things exactly, but I tend to keep carbs to less than 30g/day and I find it works very well for me. I also found a book called Protein Power which I find helpful - it has an emphasis on eating adequate protein and fibre. As for money saving, I've had to put my grocery budget up by £10/week since starting! Omlettes are fairly low cost and you can vary them quite a bit. I'm always looking for special offers on cooked meat at the deli counter too! Cottage cheese on a crispbread is a good snacky type thing at fairly low cost. I'll post more when I think of them! It will be nice to share tips.£2008 in 2008 member 552 £1947 to go! (started 20/1/08) Total wins £61

I had (another) false diet restart due to my Dad inviting us all to the zoo on Sunday, so 2 meals out - ah well, back on again yesterday and I'm determined to stick with it now - no more interuptions for a while!!! I'm experimenting with yoghurt though. I'm having one pre/pro biotic yoghurt a day (so carbs will be about 15g/day above norm for about a week). I figured that my antibiotics would have killed "good" as well as "bad" bacteria, so thought that the yoghurt thing might be a good idea. Don't know if it will make much difference though. It says on the side that it only gives around 20% of the recommended daily amount. Does anyone know any more about this? Am I actually doining anything worthwhile or just succuming to marketing techniques?£2008 in 2008 member 552 £1947 to go! (started 20/1/08) Total wins £61

Hi, lemondrop, I'm certainly no authority on yoghurt drinks but I can definately vouch for them, my ds would get every tummy bug going at his school but we have had an actimel every day for the last 18 months and we have not had any sort of tummy upset in that time, my dd, however, has but then she doesn't have the actimel as she doesn't like them. They seem to work well for us but then everybody is different but I can't see it doing any harm0

Kenny, finding the right balance with calories and exercise can be really difficult and it'll take a certain amount of experimentation on your part. You might find you can stay the same on 1200 cals/day some weeks but lose weight on 1800 cals/day on others! If you don't already keep a weekly eating & exercise record then perhaps that would helpAlso, whenever i've upped calories after eating too little, I've noticed an immediate short term weight gain, usually about 4-5lb within 48 hours. It seems to sort itself out after that. Just a warning in case that happens to you - don't freak out!

i dont really need a food diary.
Breakfast = Shredded Wheat (2 biscuits) or a bowl of shredded wheat minis, or a bown of Finesse Multigrain.
Lunch = Salad Roll with 1 sachet of Salad Cream
Dinner = Asda "good for you meals" which is either reduced fat lasagne, tomato pasta, chicken tikka those sorta things which acerage between 350-500 calories.
and yea thats all ive been eating.
i will try an increase on calories and only weight myself after 1 week, and then again the next week, hopefully something starts to give if i do get that weight gain.0 -
KPC - if it was me I'd go ultra strict in the run up, and then enjoy the holiday and not count while I was away
Depending how I felt I might make an effort to eat 'healthily' (but still enjoyably). Or I might just say s*d it
Life's short and holidays are special.
If it was just a weekend and I had a chart I was keeping, I'd probably do a high level estimate, like 2000 or 2500 per day I'm away. I don't think it's worth the hassle trying to accurately count meals that someone else has prepared, but that's just my opinion.
Where are you off to?0 -

Delly.,...... WTG with the holiday, but do my eyes deceive me? You're joining SW? Isn't that a bit like a trip into the Darkside?
[/quote]
If you're an advocate of Slimming world then - yes, I'm taking a trip into the Dark side...
BUT - as you've said yourself, you can get accustomed to any plan and fudge about on it. I think I need a change and SW is my only other alternative. Besides OH needs to lose about a stone and a half and the thought of red days appeal to him, this way we can work on it together.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
