Just had my electricyty bill in and the monthly payment has shot up, this led me to see what i use a day .
worked out for 11 days i used 114 units of electricity , which is 10.36 units
on average per day.
Is this excessive or the norm
thanks

We currently use around 5-6 KW a day in a 4 bed detatched house with 4 adults (2 at home all day).
We has a gas boiler and heating is off at the moment.0 -

I assume you mean kilowatt hours, no kilowatts. kWh.
I use around 4 daytime and 5 night units per day at the moment for heat and light.Happy chappy0 -

Assuming that you don't use electricity for heating/hot water the UK average is supposed to be 3,300kWh per year(9 per day) You tend to use more in the winter(lights on for longer)
So you are just slightly above 'the average'.0 -
Depends A LOT on parasitic loads , SKY+ box cell, phone charger/s and things on standby
Our use as sig:AOil 5573 Kwh - Elec 2100 Kwh - Water 24 M³ 3 Bed Detached,2 adults NO-KIDS'Don't live life by the perforations !'- Never been in debt -West Cornwall0 -
hi
thanks for all the replys.
Hubby keeps the phones on charge all the time , even when fully charged and does the same with the batery chargers.
He tells me that because they are fully charged then no extra electricity is being used, is this correct ?
Also i have virgin cable that is constantly in standby(bedroom t.v) apart from few hours at night when it is on does this also run away with electricity
Also we use 17820 kwh per year for Gas looking at myozone we seem very high, we only have gas cooker and gas central heating( which must be about 18 years old) and the water boiler is only on for 1 hour per day, we use the electric shower most times and the hot water is just for the dishes etc.
thanks guys for the help.0 -

Ahhh - that old chesnut...
Of the things you listed, the sky+ box (generally) has the largest standby consumption (about 14 Watts IIRC, the others perhaps 5 Watts each), so even that will only use 1/3 of a unit in 24 Hours - add in all the others, and the standby consumption will be about 1 unit per day MAX...
I'm afraid you have been swept away by the great standby bandwagon, whistling past at high velocity!
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

He is almost right - it will use MINIMAL electricity (as it will when switched on at the wall with no phone attached if it is an older style charger)
Please don't get too caught up in the whole standby debacle - yes if EVERYTHING is switched off and/or unplugged you will save a little bit, but often people do this and think that is the end of the issue.
In the long run, you will save MUCH more by switching to energy saving lightbulbs etc...I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Fully charged batteries 'feel the unit' you will find it is warm 'even when fully charged' hence electriciy still being used giving off heat which means more money to be found0 -
