Hello,
I am currently in the middle of my exams so hadn't been online much but I'd sold some items around the beginning of May. Logged on to my email to find a paypal dispute for item not received had been started by someone who'd bought a dress from me 3 weeks previously, I'd sent it out as soon as she'd paid so it had obviously been "lost in the post". I was in a hurry and the dress was only a few quid so I refunded her immediately.
I just logged onto eBay to find my first shiny red NEG! With the accompanyment "I'm not happy, paid for item then seller refunded me without an explanation" What kind of explanation did she want? I didn't send the dress recorded so I had no tracking or proof of delivery so what else could I do?
I suppose I could have strung it out a bit more by asking her to wait longer to see if it turned up but items lost in the post never seem to
Of course I have no retaliation other than to leave a follow up comment, I really don't think she'd have negged me if the feedback rules hadn't been changed recently. I was just trying to do the right thing by refunding!

I think it was fair. If you didn't explain anything to ehr it's quite reasonable for her to think she's paid and you've just decided not to send it, then refund. In that scenario someone ought to be negged, you really should have explained that you ahd sent it but it must have been lost in the post.Bought, not Brought0

I always send a standard "thanks for your purchase, you're item has been posted today/will be posted on XXXX" type message to my buyers to let them know when to expect it and she put in the dispute console "seller stated item posted on XX/XX but have not received it yet, it shouldn't take weeks to arrive, I want my money back" so its not like she wasn't aware it had been posted. I can see where you're coming from though, maybe I should have sent her another message explaining the refund

I would also respond with apologies if I received such an email. I don't quite know what I would apologise for, just a standard sort of 'sorry that your items failed to arrive' I would also stress the date on which I sent it and then say due to length of time I will of course now be issuing a full refund.
Then when I did the paypal refund I woudl apologise again in the note accompanying it and refer back to my email, just in case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Probably not, but this is probably a very good example why ebay changed the rules.spinning_hamster_wheel wrote: »... I really don't think she'd have negged me if the feedback rules hadn't been changed recently...
A buyer had a poor experience and could therefore now leave appropriate feedback about the transaction without the fear of receiving retaliatory negative feedback.

Of course you should. The buyer has no idea what has happened. I don't understand why if you can refund, you can't just add 'Sorry, I sent the item on April 3rd, it must have got lost in the post, I am refunding all of your money.'0 -
This is excellent news
A crap seller getting punished
The very fact the OP is annoyed she cant leave negative feedback in return makes it even sweeter0 -
Why don't you do an Unpaid Item Dispute to get your fees back? You never know - if the buyer does not respond, the negative will be removed, and if they do respond, you could issue a "revenge strike" as well as get your fees back.
Still - there are that many negs being dished out these days, the only sellers surviving seem to the very high volume sellers who can a/ absorb a load of negs, and b/ set up a new selling account very quickly.
Trigger-happy negging and general seller-bashing is having an untoward effect on the good sellers as well.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Are you here just to stir things up? I think they few constructive replies will have helped the OP and she will be better prepared the next time she has a problem.0 -

All reason goes out the window when the op posts
" I really don't think she'd have negged me if the feedback rules hadn't been changed recently"
