have you anyone you give some as a present too for xmas? ;D
I think they might be a bit smelly if I hang them on the tree ;D
Even after buy all the chicken I have just done my 'big' shop.
I don't buy every fortnight or month but when needed or if there is a special offer.
There's only two of us so a big shop lasts quite a while.
Some-one said they liked to see other people's shopping list, so here goes.
This shop I used £10 off £40 shop in Iceland
2x Iceland 1 - 1.1kg Half Leg Of Lamb -£ 9.94
2x Grampian 2.6 - 2.8kg Extra Large Grade A Chicken With Giblets £ 9.98
2x Iceland 6 (650g) Skinless & Boneless Turkey Breast Steaks £ 9.98
2x Iceland 4 Atlantic Salmon Fillets £ 9.98
1x Iceland Great Value 2 Smoked Gammon Rounds £ 0.99
1x Iceland 30 Thin Pork Sausages £ 1.79
1x Iceland 12 Irish Recipe Pork & Beef Sausages £ 0.21
1x Iceland 680g Petits Pois £ 0.85
1x Iceland 680g Casserole Mix £ 0.85
1x Iceland 680g Mixed Vegetables £ 0.30
1x Iceland Great Value 2ltr Vanilla Flavour Ice Cream £ 0.65
1x Iceland 400g Smoked Haddock Fillets £ 2.01
1x Iceland 400g Skinless Boneless Cod Fillets £ 2.99
2x Maxwell House 100g Coffee Granules £ 1.79
2x Del Monte 220g Canned Sliced Pineapple In Juice £ 0.63
2x Iceland 580g Jar Seafood Sauce £ 1.98
3x Iceland 454g Diced Beef Steak £ 5.00
Total £40.04
LESS £10
PAID £30.04 ;D
I then allow about £10 every week for fruit, veg, bread, groceries etc
I try and grow as much fruit and veg as I can in the garden
I buy 24 UHT longlife milk a month
I usually shop in Asda, as they take coupons and Lidl or Aldi.

Happy Christmas to Everyone0 -
I did a great shop last night, hung around the reduced section in the chilled foods. They came and took away all the reduced stuff so I waited around a bit to see if anything was coming out to replace it.
They brought all the same stuff back but it had been reduced again to 30p. So I got some haddock in breadcrumbs and 3 packs of fishcakes for 30p each and also 4 chicken and mushroom pies for 30p. All of it went in the freezer. Bargain.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Well done! I love getting bargains for the freezer, especially this time of year as it will see you through the lean month of January!! Alas my freezer is already full!!
Congrats 160 have just figured out what the countdown means! It was changing a bit though today has your due date changed? Hope you are keeping well! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Yeah, I know all the dinners are pretty similar. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm quite happy to eat the same thing several times a week ::) so nevermind! (And yeah, I don't mind having yoghurt at breakfast, lunch and tea either..lol). The actual recipes and the spices etc you use make them come out tasting quite different.
Every day gets at least 5 fruit/veg and often way more than that. I tried to make it realistic too - I hate smartprice tea so I got teh normal asda kind (although actually I would buy fair trade. so not that realistic, lol)
anyway, there you go. Love to hear some other ideas (preferably not relying on tinned tomatoes)

I'm definitely going to try out the idea of using up what's in the cupboard rather than buying new stuff!
For example, I was planning to buy a loaf of bread at lunchtime today as I've run out. However, I've got all the ingredients in the cupboard - flour, yeast etc - and they've been sitting there unused for ages. Tonight's moneysaving mission is going to be baking bread ;D I might also just go through the freezer to see whether I can get away without a trip to the supermarket this week. Fingers crossed.0 -
good luck savings newbie - let us know how it goes.
I have a rather full larder at the moment so also going to try and use what is in there - but will have to buy a couple of bits of fresh veg to see me through the month.
Also have just acquired a freezer from a friend so can now make even more savings by buying reduced items in the supermarket without worrying about having to eat them that night.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I've GOT to survive on what I've got for Jan and Feb. Meals will probably be a bit strange but I'm sure I'll cope with all your help. It's amazing what nyou can come up with. I think that some of my emergency make-do meals will become favourites as well, so that's good!0

Spag bol tonight - as a change from all the roast we've been having lately, chopped up an onion, a left over carrot, last couple of bits of garlic, put in my packet of reduced mince and a tin of tomatoes with some stock and sugar and cooked - lovely!!0
