if you thuink the limit is too high please feel free to set your own personal limit! - its just that I would rather have people come up with weekly menus that did allow a bit of room for adding tasty but optional things, having enough fruit & veg etc, rather than being extremely limited by the £. but yeah, bring on the menus, anything lower is even better

I'd love to take part but I've banned myself from spending money this month at least until nearer christmas. I'm also working on clearing out my freezer and food store. Hopefully by the new year I'll have no food again and can start buying something other than fresh veg.
  • we'll i'm only 27 and love the sound of this :)

our problem is we go shopping to often and end up with loads, our 2 freezers are full and cupboards are full too, but always seem to need stuff. ::)

main thing we need to do is remember to take something out to defrost then no excuse to get takeaway/ nip to supermarket for something nice.

prob is we never know what we'll want to eat the next day

How about a use up your store cupboard challenge for those of us that have obviously been stocking up in preparation for the day all supermarkets are stuck down by a plague. ;D

    Hi Ssaver

I'd like to know how you make your own washing powder?

    :D
search the threads for 'laundry gloop'
its a doddle and its SO cheap! Its more of a jelly when it cools, thought id tell you this because i didnt know what to expect. I love it our clothes no longer smell of detergent, and there must be benefits to my son's eczema, not to mention the money saving. I will be spending about £5 this week on shopping due to using freezer stuff 'lurking' which needs to be cleared. All Ive bought is a pack of cereals, bananas, garlic, and i ought to add i get milk tokens, but i am mean with that even, making it last as long as poss. Just as well because I have just bought the kids xmas pressies (about £49) ;D
By spending so little I have in fact transformed my home, because now the smell of filter coffee and freshly baked bread will be wafting through the house. Also Im having fires during the day to avoid having the heating on, using wood the builders next door would have otherwise thrown away! They even put it in my coal cellar for me ;D

Ssaver, do you grow your own veg? I spend much more on veg in the winter because I grow my own for the summer but haven't mastered keeping it going all year. Haven't managed to grow enough to store through the winter, either. Wonder if anyone does this on a small plot, ??? would make a big difference to us.

I havent got the space, or the right sort of garden. I used to grow veg when i lived at mums. All through childhood we rarely had to buy veg. I grow herbs, and did have tomatoes, and some spinach. Im getting some fruit bushes for next summer. My soil is pretty waterlogged this time of year. I have a pumpkin which im saving as they can be kept for a YEAR, i would have got more if i had the space/strong enough arms!
I wanted an allotment but the ones in walking distance of here have a big waiting list.

does it come out as good as when it went in?

mind you never any room in our freezer but aim to change it.

spurred on by this thread i took stuff out for lunch and dinner ;D

we used to keep bread and rolls in fridge but have got out of the habit, our freezer is full of stuff that has been on offer or reduced :)
