At least you know when you have to find the money now....

I wonder if the hotel would allow any bartering to allow you & yours to work to pay the bill? There was a couple on the One Show on BBC last week that bartered their whole wedding......chambermaiding, doing gardens, labouring, decorating etc.

    You go girl!:j

Sounds like she just couldn't resist trying to stir it further . As if they would cancel it without speaking to you. Our venue doesn't even need confirmed numbers until 2 weeks before and then we have to pay 90%.

I don't think this is the end of it either and she will try and get back in your good books and want to come in the end.
If it was me I'd tell her that the table plan has already been done and if she does want to come she'll have to pay for herself and to have the plan reprinted :D

I take it your OH isn't close to his mum - how is he holding up?

He's absolutely fuming that she's gone this far, he asked me last night what I would do if she changed her mind and showed some remorse... I avoided the question because I knew she wouldn't but I think there was a part of him that didn't want her to let him down... He said he's going to call her and give her a few home truths... But I think she'd just relish in that... I think it would be more of a punishment to her if we didn't acknowledge what she's done at all... But his mother, his call....

We have our final confirmation and payment meeting in August, 4 weeks before the wedding. We've always known this is when the money's due but we've had an arrangement with them to make payments before then so the final payment isn't a huuuge one... (Plus OH is terrible at saving, he can't just put money up and leave it... Better to be paying it off than not being able to pay it at all....)
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

If I shout at DD when she's naughty it has no effect at all. On the other hand if I ignore her it works like a dream. As your MIL is acting like a kid I'd treat her like one :D.

OH is useless with cash that's why I cut up his debit card and we have no joint account :p

  • Hi Krystaltips,

Sorry it has come to this!

I was quite surprised at how much credit we have been offered, we already have a £15,000 debt on 0% cc and other half has just been given £6000 limit by HSBC. So they are paying for the wedding!! (We do have savings to nearly cover the old debt so not completely in debt ....yet!!)

You never know as a last resort??

I've decided weddings are a lot of hassle...my MIL has just invited her friend and friend's daughter (who I don't know) on my hen do! It was meant to be a close friends and family day. Oh well who else wants to come?...... anybody......? If you want to bring your auntie....and your brother.... how about your next door neighbour's friend???

Can I come? Can I bring my son's ex-girlfriend's mum? And my brother's fiance's sister?.....I can understand the friend (for her to talk to while you have a great time!) but not the daughter....
  • Hi,

    No problem! Anyone else??!! :rotfl:

  • My MIL told my OH during a heated discussion last year she would probably be dead by the time we get married anyway! We were going to get her a picture frame for xmas but we decided the better of it.

Just a quick update, OH called his brother tonight (he's in his mom's camp) They were chatting away, his bro telling him all the things his mom's claiming OH is supposed to of said about him... All untrue, she's just trying to cause trouble between him and his siblings (She's been doing it with his sisters too)... Then the conversation turned to the wedding, obviously and his bro said 'Oh, Mom said that was cancelled now'

Don't know if that is her trying to cause more trouble for us... Or just wishful thinking... But it most definately isn't cancelled!!!

Oh Krystal, sorry to hear that you are still having hassle with this, what is it about weddings that turns relatives nuts??

Good on you sticking to your guns, if she is going around telling everyone it is cancelled she won't be coming then, will she??
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:
