Virgin will move the line to there service
Virgin will not move the line to there service.
You keep your line rental with BT ,and your calls will be cps to Virgin, and they will supply their not so good non-cable broadband, and depending on what package your get a Freeview Type box.0 -

It might be worth OP getting VM services and just having the basic line rental from BT?!
Surely would be better than BT rates?!
If the OP takes into account disconnection fee etcDELETE ACCOUNT.

I dont know about Broadband but BT phone call rates are in fact a lot better then using Virgin Media.Plus they allow you to use short access codes like 18185.
What the OP is actually looking for is company that will connect a phone line that does not have a long contract and a cancellation fee,so he can move to Talk Talk . Post Office Homephone will do this.0 -

Thanks for this. I have just seen that Post Office Homephone will connect me for £110 with no contract tie-in.
I'm not interested in a TV package as we never watch TV, but we want the evening/weekend calls and broadband. With Virgin this would require the Large Phone package and the Medium Broadband package, but they don't do a bundle for this that I can see? Also, because I'm not in a cable area, i'd still have to pay my line rental to BT.
Is TalkTalk really that bad? I'm currently with Tiscali, so the way I see it, anything will be an improvement! It would definitely be the cheapest option from what I can see, if I was to connect with Post Office Homephone and then disconnect?0 -
Talktalk may well be the cheapest at present however there are price rises scheduled for August 2008 levied by Openreach onto full llu providers such as TT. Also Ofcom have announced that they are to review Openreaches charges with the possibility that prices will be raised even more. Since TT broadband is "free forever" then their only recourse would be line rental/call charges to be increased while remaining below that of BTs due to their "£1000 challenge". Looking at the Postoffice Packages actually, they don't seem too badly priced but I know nobody who has used them. Anyone heard anything?0

is that like "i'd rather eat arsenic than cyanide?" both companies have appalling, deserved reputations, look around for happy customers, I'm sure there are some, but "care in the community" is a long running program.

Actually, Virgin is NOT the cheapest package, I have it and am waiting for my contract to expire to change back to BT.
Virgin's phone charges are massive, and there are all these hidden call charges all over the bill.
At least with a BT line I can use easy override providers. Even BT line rental is cheaper than Virgins 10.50 compared to 11.00 pounds. Not a big difference, but including everything else, BT is actually cheaper than Virgin.0 -
Aol's new wireless flexi package looks good.£4.99 per month for 3 months then £14.99 per month.10gb per month download allowance. With this package you get free anytime calls to uk landlines.Best of all there is no minimum contract!.The only downside is £29.99 one off connection charge........Neil0
