I personally think they'll never notice. Reason being it will just be some gimp behind a computer typing in the wrong number for the BACS payment - they'll be in trouble for the mistake, so they aren't going to bring the issue up. Only thing would be if someone else got paid a wrong amount and someone checked up on the work the person making the error had done.
I'd suggest OP keeps money and sees if they come asking for it. My bet is they won't and you might get lucky if this person types the wrong amount in again
Plus, is there something that says we all have to legally look at our bank account statements straight away and check any money we receive against wage slips? There's none that I know of. OP might not a bank statement in the post for another 3 months, and there's nothing that says they have to legally look at it and pay back any unsolicited monies.
And also, regards this comment I wouldnt want you working for me!!!!

If people were to stop and think about there advice and if they would really take there OWN advice I doubt they would to be honest, knowing it is aload of complete and utter rubbish - it is a laughing matter but as for the OP I somehow doubt the TAX exuse is going to wash, May I ask how much TAX you pay each year??!!!
Something sounds odd to say the least, if its even true, I think you knew you were overpaid otherwise why clear your debts now, why noy pay a small bit off, someone is telling porkies:TDELETE ACCOUNT.

Tax is high because rich people, most often employers, are greedy and use every tax evasion method in the book that they can get away with.Highest earners should be taxed more and loopholes closed, and tax reduced for the lowest earners, and minimum wage increased significantly. Alas, rich people tend to vote more than poor people so the Government want to please them so none of these will ever happen.
Also, if people were paid proper wages, they would have no reason to want to keep £3k overpayment. If the employers are stupid enough to pay employees the least wages possible for their work, employees are going to have a need for the £3k  If employees were paid properly in the first place, without a handful of people at the top of the business owning more than 2 houses worth £2 million blah blah.
Employers have a right to be greedy and get away with it, so should employees :money:0 -
I would be worried if I was the OP:
Obtaining a money transfer by deception

(c) the credit results from the debit or the debit results from the credit.
(3) References to a credit and to a debit are to a credit of an amount of money and to a debit of an amount of money.
(4) It is immaterial (in particular)—

Thanks Johnny, but RE my last post, I think the OP should seek some kind of legal advice before it gets to this stage - and no one make sthe misake of thinking "Oh 3k refund of tax, I spend it on repaying debts soon as you get it" come on, be real now!:rotfl:DELETE ACCOUNT.
