Is the damp near a gutter on the outside wall? Might be a gutter problem TPA?
  • Hiya!

Come on share the energy consumption!

No probs with condensation here. Bedroom occasionally in the morning if its been a very cold night but I always fling the windows open (even when its freezing outside) for 2 minutes and that clears it. I crack a window after a shower, during cooking and if I dry any clothes on a radiator. I don't think keeping the heating on is the answer, then the moisture is still in the air on your house. And I cringe when I see people (like my neighbour) wiping their windows with a cloth in the morning. She told me she drys the cloth on her kitchen radiator - argh, it's just keeping the moisture in the house ready for condensing on the windows the next night.

Well done on the subtle learning steps for your daughter... it'll stand her in good stead for the future. It's how I started!

Aired the house today, all windows open for about 15mins to blow out the humid air and hopefully start to reduce condensation. We always open the large bathroom window to ventilate after a shower, have extractor running when cooking etc. The only differences compared to a year ago are that we haven't had the bedroom window open over night and we have heating set to about 18°C rather than 20°C. Will need to check that when condensing drier is running the utility window is open, and I may remove the cover from the open fire place which would ventilate the house but is then a source of a draft...

Financially, S&S ISA Funds are bumping along relatively flat presently, credit card spend in December has been ok in consideration of presents etc. Gas and electric should all be ok, had some refund from BG for gas account and expect a bill for balance on electricity in the post (no sign of the £100 fee to opt out yet, so I'm keeping fingers crossed about that!). BG claim they've canceled the direct debits but I think I'll delete them also from my bank account over Christmas break.

Weather here in East Anglia remains cold and locally icy, I'm working until 24 Dec so am hopeful we don't get more snow in the interim. Hopefully you are all remaining warm and safe despite the weather.
  • Well done on the house airation. Did you feel better for blowing the cobwebs out with the condensation?

Partially, but I've got a heavy cold so it wasn't as efficacious as usual! Hoping the worst will pass before Christmas and am keeping clear of colleagues at work as I don't want to pass it on...

    Hi

It's interesting what you say about condensation as many of my fellow meter watchers on the green board have condensation problems too. We seem to fairing OK in this department. We keep the heating at 18 degs at night. Today I have the heating set at 19degs as eldest son is on study leave and Mr smf2 is working from home too. If Mr Smf2 is working away I can quite happily work at 18 degs.

We have a very draughty front door (I intend to sort this out in 2010) maybe this stops us getting condensation?

    Best Wishes

Hi, I'm not dead. So much going on I haven't had time to post for weeks.

No condensation here either there is too much air coming in for that.

At the mo we have snow and ice so we started keeping the central heating on from 8am to 6pm (both at home all day) then as usual use just the coal fire and we take a hot water bottle to bed if necessary.

    Season's bleatings to you!

I hope all who read my ramblings are having an enjoyable holiday break and sincere best wishes for 2010. I hope you'll continue to support me as you've done since I started this thread, meanwhile more G&T is needed while I listen to some "far too old mp3s" as my daughter would say - I love the fact that mp3fiesta.com means I can download all those old vinyls I bought when I was young!
