Hey Stuart :santa2:
How did you get on with your 1p belt?
Smf20 -
Well I used cyanoacrylate to adhere the stub to the body of the belt at the weekend, but haven't yet worn it... should I take some braces just in case the belt fails?0

and make sure you wear clean underwear in case the braces fail as well :rotfl:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi
Been very busy recently and I guess little "news" to post here...
Had a great evening Thursday for work Christmas evening and stopped overnight nearby in Travelodge which meant I could have a drink and not have a 45min run home in fog at midnight and needing to get up again at 0500. Save about £10 in petrol so the £37 for the night was nearer £27 net.
Took DD shopping today, she used her ATM card for the first time (makes me feel like she's growing up quickly now she's 12) and then spent the cash on presents and cards for Christmas which I think was a salient lesson in planning and gauging the total price when adding up items in the shopping basket. Getting through the cash I think drives the message home without Dad needing to "advise her"...
(I may well top her cash up tomorrow but want the lesson to sink in over the £45 she spent in total first).
Her class are doing Secret Santa presents so we found a couple of the paper flying lanterns in the 99p shop for (you guessed it) 99p each - good value and non-specific to the interests of the boy she has to buy for who she doesn't know at all well; until, we realised whilst in Starbucks the over-18 label on the reverse! Worryingly, staff didn't notice it either when she made the purchase. Anyway, we'll supervise and use them with her maybe on New Years Eve, and she'll find something else tomorrow (I've paid her the £2 back before you admonish me!)
Should be paid early this month so will be able to give a year end update before Christmas.
I'll try to call by a bit more regularly now!0 -

Gave DD £10 having had a chat about budgeting for presents and setting a limit in advance of shopping. She accepted the information and the lesson learned but, bless her, was reluctant to accept the money until I reminded her she still needs to buy me something for Christmas:A
Regarding the funds; well these have been bouncing around a bit with the last few weeks' events in the markets, pre-Budget announcement (hate to think of the impact that will make on us in 2010-2011 etc), potential risk of UK (& USA) losing AAA status only to have the tone of the message changed a few days later... I would guess that next week will be the last busy week before Europe goes slow for the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Our monthly investment will be made this week on 17 Dec so I will then be able to look at that too in the context of year end position.
Need to read gas and electricity meters now to start building data with Scottish Power do the direct debit remains close to the amount we are actually consuming; cold weather now means we are having heating running at weekends but noting we're getting more condensation than previous years which makes me think it is the lower temperature in the house meaning the inner glass of the double glazing is closer to the dew point.... need to think about this as condensation and mold are not nice.
As with many of you, I anticipate a busy week ahead at work, so hoping the weather doesn't deteriorate too much on the roads. Keep safe through winter folks.0 -
Hi
It's interesting what you say about condensation as many of my fellow meter watchers on the green board have condensation problems too. We seem to fairing OK in this department. We keep the heating at 18 degs at night. Today I have the heating set at 19degs as eldest son is on study leave and Mr smf2 is working from home too. If Mr Smf2 is working away I can quite happily work at 18 degs.
We have a very draughty front door (I intend to sort this out in 2010) maybe this stops us getting condensation?
Best Wishes

This is interesting, we too suffer with condensation and mold in certain places; corner of the bedroom (on what would be the inner corner of the exterior wall - front edge of house) and the bathroom. We have a fan but I don't really think it helps.
We put the heating on at 5pm goes off at 9pm - is set at 20 degrees. Only other time it is on is during the daytime at the weekend. It is set to only come on if temperature goes below 10 degrees at any other time.
I would be interested to see if we had the heating on more it would solve the condensation problems. Perhaps if we had it coming on for a short time in the morning also?
