Managed to save quite a bit of money this year thanks to MSE. Firstly we have a free cruise with Cunard ( Norwegian fjords) thanks to tesco clubcard rewards , took out a tesco platinum finest credit card and saved up the vouchers for two yrs .

Saved £££ by using our 7 seater toyota previa less and smaller car more and cycling whenever I can. The kids walk to school rather than me running them around everywhere

Overpaid morgage , so when interest rates dropped we kept our payments the same saving ££££ on interest . Also cashed in some premium bonds I had and payed this off the most expensive mortgage we had as it would save us more than we were getting on wins

Planning meals by making a shopping list and avoiding impulse buys , reducing waste and shopping at Lidl and aldi has saved loads on food bills , as well as cutting out takeaways and pre packed foods and cooking more . Taking picnics out rather than paying out at cafe's when taking the kids out .

Instead of taking the kids out to a theme park on holiday I took them cycling and climbing trees in the forest , going to the beach etc ,playing board games etc. All things which they enjoyed more anyway and we also avoided the crowds as well as saving loads of money ...it's true , the best things in life are FREE.

I have hardly spent anything on skin care since my twenties (I'm now 68), and people are always commenting that I don't look anywhere near my age, or how good my skin is.

Apart from the fact that they probably need specs, I put it down to my regular skin care - baby lotion for everything. First bought some in 1964 when pregnant with twins, but when they were born didn't know what I was supposed to do with it, so used it myself!

Can't use J*hns*n's as I'm a bit allergic to it (eyes water and swell up), but have used B**ts or supermarket own brands for years. The good news now is that S**nsb*rys do a Basics version which costs about 60p and works just as well. One bottle lasts about 4 months - what's that, about half a penny a day?

Have tried other lotions and creams in my time, but can honestly say that nothing makes my skin feel any better than baby lotion does - and in fact some pricey ones don't suit me as well.

candlesrus, I bet the children did enjoy themselves out in the forest etc!

My DD3 is a professional play worker, and one thing she's always focussed on is enabling children to do exactly what yours did - getting out there and playing as children are meant to!

And, you saved all that money!

  • I always read Martin's site & listen to him on GMTV & other shows with interest but always wonder how much I could really save.

Well this year I got my insurance renewal form through & it was for £845  (I have to pay monthly cos it is so much), so I thought this year I have to sort this out as it's not like I have an expensive car or am a high risk.

I spent an hour or so going through the comparison websites as recommended & got my insurance for £314 :j , so managed to pay it in full & therefore saving myself the extra monthly costs.

That is such a massive saving - over £500 - which means I now have an extra £500 this year. I am now a firm believer & totally converted money saver & will be reading up on more things to see what else I can save money on.

Oh & I will NEVER let insurance companies auto renew again
Many thanks for all the info. :T

thanks to martins tips on comparing as many comparison sites as possible. Then I spotted that the R.A.C. quote, which was pretty good, was underwritten by Aviva...went direct to their site and saved £80:money:Well worth the few hours it took:T:T so, use the comparison sites to find the best quotes, then go direct to their website as its cheaper again 'cause theirs no commission. whoopee!

I have saved thousands of pounds thanks to Martin Lewis and everyone on this site over the past few years. Including- £6000 of free shopping using coupons as cash ( great while it lasted) £1100 bank charges refunded.Cut my power costs by a huge amount, had free meals on flights thanks to codes, free delivery on white kitchen goods, and so many other tips too numerous to mention.
Whenever I buy or sign up to anything, this site is my first port of call to see if I can do things cheaper or get some kind of discount.
    Thanks everyone!
  • I just saved £491 per year by switching my gas and electricity, PLUS £50 cashback PLUS will get a bonus from the company I've switched to in a year of about £150!!!!
    Thanks Martin!
