I heard that there were 2 brothers and they both started a supermarket each.

The brothers who run Aldi have actually split the world between them, so if you look at:

    https://www.aldi.com

one brother runs the countries on the left, and the other the countries on the right. See here for more:

    http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/a/al/aldi.htm

They've also done very nicely out of it, coming top of "Europe's richest 50" in the Sunday Times Rich List:

They make Roman Abramovich look poor!!!

Do Aldi do much vegetarian stuff there?
They do lettuce that lasts for 2 weeks in your fridge.
  • I love Aldi!
The only things I still buy from Sainsburys are cereals, (kids will only eat their favourite brands) and veggies sometimes when I only want a few of something rather than a whole bag etc. I thing the quality is excellent. The only thing I have been disappointed with was the fish fingers, because the coating came off when they were grilled.
Their filter coffee is seriously the nicest I have ever tasted. I love the titan bars. My daughters love the sweet pancakes, they have them for breakfast every day warmed up with lemon and sugar.
My OH laughs at me because I go off to Aldi every Saturday morning and I spend the rest of the day raving about how wonderful it is. Im only little and there is nothing in my local Aldi I cant reach. The prices are much more clearly displayed than Sainsburys, its much easier to pack your shopping, no long waits at the checkouts, the trolleys are not too akward to push etc.
I dont mention to anyone that I shop there because a) I dont want them to all shop there too and there would be no bargains left for me. and b) When I see friends and rellies with their Sainsburys bags I smirk to myself, Im getting much better quality than them for less, if they dont try it for snobby reasons, they dont know what they are missing. My aunt does shop at Aldi though, I saw her the other day and when she discovered I shop there too, we had a good old natter over our glass of Aldi apple and blackcurrant (Im a recent convert from Robinsons) about all the bargains we have had there. I have a new pair of electronic kitchen scales on this weeks list....

I tried Aldi for the first time yesterday. They just opened.

I found it the same as Lidl in most respects, only 1 cashier, no carrier bags, no credit cards, no shopping baskets, Their stuff seemed Ok, But I could not get all my weekly shop there.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Aldi are OK for some things. Their bread is average, bacon is excellent. I find their fruit poor. I bought nectarines the other day, they were rock hard and went wrinkley before they softened - had to chuck them.

Some of their cereal is pretty dire too.

I do like their apple juice though.
  • Felt inspired to go there for a shop today for the 1st time.

I thought I would report on my finds.

Smoked Salmon £1.99 .. gorgeous, me and the kids ate the lot before it even got to the fridge
Kids bootleg jeans £2.79..Look fab on my little girl ...bargain

The following I am not sure of price as I can't find my reciept

" Huge " tiramisu £1.something .. very very nice as were all the yoghurts I have bought

The following have all been tasted and as good as anything I buy in Tescos. Also much cheaper

Bag of chocky peanuts and rasins ..
    Blackcurrent diluting juice
Pan fried vegetable crisps (these too are now all gone as so yummy)

Have yet to try frozen salmon in sauce ( recommended by Woman magazine according to lable in shop) and the fresh pasta and sauces but will do so in the next few days and report back.
Will definatly be going back next week .

Their crunchy nut cornflakes are spot on - as good as Kellogg's, any day - bit nuttier too. 99p for 500g box :)
  • Hi, my fiancee and I are 'foodies' and always out to try new stuff, so tried Aldi recently (we already like Lidl, but an Aldi opened up recently in our town).

The pesto is brilliant and at £1 per jar, great value.

As someone else noted, Coco bay (Malibu style drink) is £5 per bottle and I couldn't tell the difference.

Also, I have a thing for artichokes and you can get a jar in oil for £1.30ish even in Asda they are £2.50, and tehy are the nicest I have tasted!

Oh, and the ice cream at £1 a tub (Frosty's is the make) is soo good!

    Happy shopping!:p

Used Aldi and Lidl for a while. Aldi is slightly better (in my opinion) than Lidl.

I find Aldi seeming less depressing to shop in.

I reccommend anyone to try it once. Aldi is not cheap when you compair it to the supermarket value brands but it is cheap when you compair it to items of the same quality such as the leading brand or 'taste the difference' type ranges which i find are about the same quality as most Aldi stuff.

Forget the brand name. You will not find it here, try it though.

I find myself shopping at Aldi weekly and doing a monthly super-shop at one of the main supermarkets for stuff i cannot get at aldi.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.
