  • CocoBay tastes just like Malibu, lovely neat with 1 ice cube! And half the price!!!
My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely
  • Now my children are grown up (almost) and i've a little more 'free' money at the end of the month, I have been able to stop buying the value range in everything and now enjoy the finer labels in the supermarket lol!

Well I started shopping at Aldi after reading the rave reviews on here and I have to say im very impressed with the quality! The chocolate is wonderful and i've stopped buying cadbury's as I find it tastes plasticky in comparison.

The yoghurts are wonderfully creamy and the mincemeat is just as nice as the most expensive I can buy elsewhere.

So I now shop at Aldi, not to save a few pence, but as I really do think its nicer food.

I did look at the other customers and found that it was a lot of older customers buying smoked salmon and wines etc, they've obviously cottoned on to the quality side too!

I like their fresh lasagne and £1 pepperoni pizzas. Austins their Pimms alternative (only available during summer unfortunately) is excellent too.

I have been a regular shopper at Aldi for years, the only products I don't buy is bread ,eggs, washing powder and some cereals. I find the quality of the products excellent value and I agree with lady_noluck the Cocobay is the same as Malibu and thier continental meats are superb. The last time I was in I spent £103 and the check out operator said that was the most he had served that week!! I got lots of bulk items ;)

I did spend over a thousand pounds in one go once, but I was buying a plasma screen tv!

  • Havnt got an Aldi near me (they are building one soon!), but Lidl are great, I hav tried nearly everything I like from them and have not had any problems with their 'foreign makes' - But stear well clear of the Baked beans, the only thing I ever bought from Lidl and couldnt eat! (But Netto beans are better than Heinz - I never thought I'd say that - lol)

I have to go elsewhere for things like Quorn, veggie burgers etc.

However Aldi is starting to do brands now so you never know, they may start doing more veggie bits.

Most of sauces, biscuits, crisps etc are veggie though! It's definitely worth a browse just to see what offers they have.

last christmas, got fed up with the queues at tesco's so popped over to aldi, all i can say is that their cheese selection was fantastic (most of my posh visitors admired the taste but nearly choked when i told them they were from aldi!!), the christmas cake was delicious, sausages and bacon were my hubby's favourite (and he's a bit fussy on where his food comes from) all at a fraction of the price...

when i lived in germany many moons ago, i used to shop all the time at aldi, as that was the only supermarket in the area, it certainly didn't have the stigma over there that it has here.
